To be fair, as things stand Brighton, Newcastle and Southampton are worse as well. Could change of course !
And I find some irony that in a results business, Potter is being hailed as the Next Big Thing while Hodgson is treated with such contempt by a percentage of his clubs fans.

We have had this debate before in terms of aspirations, but the pundits have said it, Roy has said it, Parish has said it - first priority is to stay in the League. That's the ' Tone From The Top ' and reflects the approach we see on the pitch.

Potter seemed an odd choice of manager, and I don't really believe the hype. Pundits have got to fill silences and there isn't that much to say about Brighton. They are probably clutching at staws for something positive to say.

Impressive record in Sweden, but its only lower league Swedish football played in front of one man and his huskey.

Average at Swansea finishing mid table.

Can't see why a premiership club would appoint him.

I do think we have better players than Brighton, and it just goes to show, and average manager can keep a side up in this division. There's plenty of alternatives.

oops! 4th to 1st division and scared Arenal - at Swansea in the league cup he fielded SEVEN DEBUTANTS (men - not young ladies) against us and they played us off the park for an hour before losing 1-0. He's very good - I wanted him at Palace when he was at Swansea, and I've seen no reason to change my mind, look at weeds performances against big clubs compared to ours, esp City and Chelsea. Your opinion is based on confirmation bias.

If Roy goes, whoever we appoint is a risk. If Roy stays we are still at risk anyway due to our ageing squad and apparent lack of funds to replace them.

I am not convinced by Sean Dyche or Eddie Howe. If I had to pick I would say Lampard because i feel he has more to gain by taking the job and in a rebuilding phase he would attract better players.

Whether we could afford them or not is another matter.

I also think Lampard would attract better players at academy level and if the dreaded relegation were to happen in the next couple of seasons, it might be crucial that we have 2 or 3 talented youngsters coming through.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

I'm not sure I buy this idea that Hodgson isn't fussed to speak to the club until this season is over. He's been perfectly happy to discuss a new contract mid season before.

For me the proof (well, perhaps more a strong indication than actual proof) that the club are looking at alternatives is that they haven't just extended the employment of the man in the dugout.

It’s highly unlikely that Hodgson, and the club don’t know what comes next. It’s us that are left guessing.
It’s very possible a contract has been on the table for some time, but Hodgson, wants to see if the club can give him a squad he stands a chance of working well with.
On the other hand, if the club are going to let Hodgson go, it would be surprising if someone wasn’t already more or less in place. But only they know what they have had to promise to get one worth having. That’s if they get one worth having.
One things for certain, the club know exactly what they have in mind for next year, and Hodgson, will know what his possibilities are, even if whatever it is proves to be totally underwhelming for him and for different reasons most of the fans.

I'm not convinced about Dyche or Howe either, and it is tricky to sort the facts from the rumours and the downright fake news regarding who's going where.

But it seems ever more likely that Howe will end up in Scotland and the financial situation at Burnley is precarious and their investors would prefer Dyche to stay to give some stability.

Lampard has never really figured for me although indications are that he may well be Mr Parish's favourite candidate. His value to us along with his relative youth and first hand experience of the latest technical thinking would be his ability to influence reasonable loanees from Chelsea.

I know much has been said about whether this is a value or not, but without a huge pot of cash at our disposal it may well provide some added value.

As long as we don't go down the Fulham route and rely on loanees too heavily.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I don't see Roy being here next season. IMO there's been too much smoke for there not to be fire regarding successors.

Roy doesn't play games via the media and will have his coaching staff to consider. He's equally unlikely to appreciate being the back up plan or the disrespect he's been shown by some sections of the fan base.

I agree with comments about Lampard's use of youth being irrelevant. No comparison between Chelsea's resources and ours or the end of the table at which they're likely to be competing.

Lampard a bit too green.
Dyche a bit too boring.
Howe seems a decent in between for me. Perfect guy to build a project, but not as much of a risk.

I really can’t understand the reasoning as to why the club are dealing with Roy and the out of contract players this way.

Surely by now Roy should have been informed if there is a contract on offer, and if the club want him of not. If not , there has to be a replacement lined up so bring him in. Either way leaving Roy hanging is pretty disrespectful to the guy that’s secured several seasons of prem football and 100s of millions of income to the club.

IMO if Roy was being kept on the club would of said so, absolutely no reason for smoke and mirrors, bad Roy and bad for the team.

Oh is he? I wasn't sure whether it was confirmed confirmed. That's a shame if so.

I think Dyche would surprise some people, I believe he can play a better brand of football given the right players. Also should he need to revert to type, he could.
