If we could get him back for reasonable money then absolutely - in a previous thread it was stated he was on £65k a week & we had offered him £35k - (assuming any of that is true) he has been out had a look around & apparently only Rangers are interested - maybe a bit more money, maybe working for Gerrard had some interest but its still a long journey to Scotland for what would probably be only one year - he could negotiate the deal up a bit , sign for us tomorrow, no long journey, stay with the same club, working relationships etc etc, help us out when required in the Prem & progress to a coaching role when the time comes (all in London) Originally posted by Phil’s Barber
Yes, I agree. He comes across extremely well in person and I imagine he is a big influence amongst the players both on and off the field. He is also extremely handy at set pieces and has an uncanny knack of scoring more than his fair share of goals.

We also have Tomkins, who is/was arguably our best centre back last season when all were fit, Kouyate who was probably our most consistent player last season and Kelly as cover. That's 5 centre backs. If desperate Jairo could make it 6 and even Ward has played there occasionally. Maybe a youngster coming through too could offer another option. Is Sam Woods still at the club? IMHO now we have Andersen centre back is probably our strongest position. The squad has more pressing needs in other positions

I hear what your saying, my thoughts would be that we have struggled there historically through injuries, if Tomkins picks up another injury & something happens to Anderson we are relying on Guehi & Kouyoute (or Kelly) against strong opposition, wheras we do know what we are getting with Cahill (if we complete the re signing)& at least for this coming season we will have sidestepped a potential banana skin for a reasonable cost - this time next year everyone will be that bit older & then we probably wont need him - Also personally I dont go along with the thoughts of either Jairo or Joel Ward stepping into that centre back position, its just too important & I dont believe they have the height - also they will probably be required elsewhere. Just my tuppence worth - Originally posted by palace99
