fantastic start to the game and for once an early goal: fully justified. credit to Roy - he has the team set up and raring to go unlike a couple of other teams. Arteta hang your head in shame. listening to the post match interviews i think that the lack of a crowd was helpful for the team's effort to stay tight in the 2nd half. the players could speaking and be heard. my only gripe is: why oh why doesn't Roy use the subs...i guess the players are still very fresh and should be able to cope. still...

This was all going swimmingly last night. Palace being praised by all for their tenacity and how we set up. Then right at the end just as they were talking about the possibility of Europe, friggin jug ears had to pipe up, “of course Palace will be playing Liverpool next week and that will be a different kettle of fish”, cue the smug grin. He didn’t need to mention our next game at all but in the end he had to try and have a dig and suggest the Palace run is going to come crashing down. At the end of the day he is right that it will be a big challenge but he obviously wasn’t happy leaving the game on an upbeat note for us. That guy is a grade A to55er. I really hope we turn Liverpool over or at least get a draw.

He used 3 subs ! What other subs would you have used in that game?

Agree with the post match comments from all pretty much. Terrific performance, looked in great shape, really up for it, organised and some clinical finishing thrown in for good measure, plus no new injuries, which is a blessing. One little dampener for me was Wilf’s chance in the last minute. That for me sums up how he is for us these days...a fantastic player with bags of ability but for some reason just coasting, not really interested and playing at 70% (at best!). Other than that I thought we were excellent and I’m looking forward to getting something from the Liverpool game on Wednesday.

I disagree with your effort comment. I thought Zaha played very well. He normally doesn’t defend as well as today, kept tracking back to aid VanAanolt. Fouled for first goal, involved in second. I too wished he would have scored at the end, but think it was more about exhaustion than lack of effort. Originally posted by Phil’s Barber

Great performance! Silver lining to Brighton is we went ahead of the gooners. I was grumpy with the second half as they were there for the slaughter and goal difference could get us into Europe. However you are right. Tbe congested games and limited squad mean game management won the day. The 3 injuries were the cost of getting the team to the level of fitness they were. Impressive.

Definitely a pen. His prediction to go down every year. And their (whoever) next game is palace who they would hope to get points from etc. Last night he was endlessly gushing. Must have had Eagle Crunch for breakfast.

I would like to see a bit more of Pierrick - would have swapped for Wilf. Only my opinion, of course

Well done lads. We couldn't have expected a better start than that. "Hit the ground running" springs to mind. Minor nags: We lost a lot of possession through poor passing. Wilf didn't seem to have been rejuvenated. He was still useful but not £80M worth. He'll need goals to get his desire of a glamour club coming after him. Overall though delighted! They all looked fit and defensively rock solid.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

If this doesn't actually exist then it needs to be invented.
