I like 4-3-3 as a formation....but sticking Meyer...possibly our most technical player with eye for a pass...out on the left wing...seems silly. For me:

Hennessy

AWB - TONK - SAKHO - PVA

LUKA

MCARTHUR-MEYER

PUNCHEON - SORLOTH - ZAHA

Puncheon in the team !
With respect you and I have a distinct variance of opinion on this matter.

You can't of seen much of the Middlesbrough game, him playing was a waste of development time for Kirby, Williams etc. As for Sorearse how many strikers are 6ft4? ish and not an aerial threat?

When Crouch first started out, even though he was 6ft 7in he was not that aggressive in the air for his height and never had that much of an impressive leap on him.Back in 2015 he went on to beat Alan Shearer's record of the most headed goals in the PL !

Square pegs, round holes: it's the Hodgson way.

If that was true - and I highly doubt that it is - then if I was Steve Parish I'd be asking some very serious questions of the manager as to why Meyer isn't starting every week

Just what we need, the chairman picking the starting XI based on weekly wage.

Go to division 1, go directly to division 1, do not pass go, do not collect £200.

If Puncheon plays his usual position of right winger, he could actually do good.

The problem is that in the past 2 years they kept sending him in as central midfielder, where he sucks.

Maybe he doesn't have the speed he once had, but playing inverted winger (cause he's left and playing on the right would be how Robben plays for Bayern Munich) doesn't require that much speed, more like technical quality to cut inside. Central midfield probably requires more speed than that and Puncheon doesn't really know how to defend well.

If you look at Meyer's misses he is not a " pass it into the net " guy. He puts his laces though everything but also not afraid to attempt difficult shots when no other option, going for areas of goal where keeper will have no chance when he is on target. Am quietly confident his goals will come and will be praised as technically difficult when they do

Too much criticism of Roy here. Meyer was started yesterday and was not especially impressive. His finishing was particularly poor. Given the limited tools at his disposal I think Roy is doing a decent job and if he’d enjoyed the rub of the green we’d now be in a more comfortable position. It’s a shame that we’ve lost the momentum of last season but constantly slagging off Roy’s judgement is getting a little tiresome.

A lot of people are quick to forget that Jason Puncheon is actually a very decent football player.

He almost single handedly gave us a goal threat in our first season or two, was it? And he went through a band patch, yes. But I'm not convinced he's a spent force.

For me, he's a smarter player than Townsend. Townsend is physically fitter and faster, admittedly. But I think we need a stronger bench too...so I'd like to see us starting with Punch...with Townsend coming on for impact. Plus, you know, he's one of our own...which it feels like we need right now.

Sprites, if you read my post, we need to have fluidity in the front three. Just because I showed him on the left doesn't mean he plays left wing.

My point is more that I don't think he's right for the front three at all. He needs to be playing the balls through...not running onto them. Play him in the middle of the park where he's best.

With the greatest of respect, I don't share the same view of Puncheon as you do but HOL would be rather tedious if we all agreed with one another as part of a gargantuan 'Love-in'.

Puncheon has played a postive part in our team in the past, but game on game he was abject leading up to his injury and I have little faith that he can now make a positive contribution in the PL.He is now 32, in the twilight of his career and it will speak volumes about our strength in depth if he is chosen to start.Perhaps he could do a job for a team in the Championship and that maybe this is where he will head in January.
