In the case of the chap at darts, I really don't think he was mocking ethnicity. As far as I can see he was mocking the politician who happens to be black. If a black chap had "White-faced" wore a Theresa May wig and mocked her in a similar fashion would there have been a similar reaction ? I would have found this quite amusing and certainly not concluded that he was a racist on account of what he had done. Edited by Willo (18 Dec 2017 5.52pm) How can one know if he was mocking ethnicity or not? As said elsewhere in this thread the real question is why a white bloke would choose to dress up as a black woman as the single most funniest thing that he could think of for a darts match.

To my mind he was mocking Diane Abbott for her difficulty with numbers and accordingly dressed up as her so that everyone knew what he was on about. It really is a stretch of the imagination to believe he was mocking ethnicity. Clearly the PC Brigade have deemed that "Black-face" by a white person is totally unacceptable and offensive irrespective of the actualite and context. This is the view of the PC Brigade and we all have our own views even if we don't all have agendas.Maybe the PC Brigade will be as cacophanous if a black person "White faces". I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Edited by Willo (18 Dec 2017 6.46pm)

It's not 'racist'. End of story. If someone is notorious in some way, then they are a fair target for ridicule, satire or impersonation. Fancy dress is in that tradition so don't tell me you can't dress up as someone because they have a different colour skin. That is f***ing ridiculous. And don't start on about the history of Blackface. I don't care. Get over it. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (18 Dec 2017 6.42pm)

And if a black person "White faces" and mocks a white politician who has been the subject of ridicule, I for one will deem that he is mocking the politician and NOT his colour. Shame on me for NOT shouting "Racist" and being offended.

A generic Jewish person is not an individual. Nor is he responsible for being sent to a gas chamber. I've seen fancy dress that is in very bad taste featuring an individual, which I think is OK as long as you accept very bad taste and I've also seen examples where an ethnicity is part of the joke which I think is not acceptable in a multicultural society. Diane Abbot however is perfect material. She is a walking joke. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (18 Dec 2017 6.52pm)

I have made my views patently clear, there is no need for me to engage in any re-gurgitation and continue my debate with the PC Brigade so that's it from me on this thread.

So people against tyranny are labelled as 'Anti-Fascist', and those who understand why people of colour might be offended by people 'Blacking Up' are labelled the PC Brigade? Is that what Society has come to...People calling each other belittling names because they take a stand against prejudice?
To me you're just a bunch of small-minded bigots, patting each other on the back and encouraging each other to be c*nts.

To me you're just a bunch of small-minded bigots, patting each other on the back and encouraging each other to be c*nts. So you complain about people calling each other 'belittling names' in a badly constructed sentence and then hypocritically call us 'small minded bigots'. You sir are a hypocrite.
