Willo South coast - west of Brighton. 28 Sep 17 2.08pm | |

I obviously am not privy to all the facts nor seen the footage. Clearly if he was the subject of a violent attack then he is entitled to act in self-defence.If he was the subject of provocation then I suppose one can argue that he might have acted with more self-restraint.But it is easy to urge restraint when one is not involved in the situation without all the salient facts. Suffice to say that the England team will really be weakened if Stokes cannot make the tour as he is so important to the team with bat and ball.

I wonder who comes in for Stokes if he's in lock up. Not that I think he should be....that kind of thing happens every weekend and nothing happens....he's got a target on his back....silly boy though. He may well have visa issues.

I think that it's moments like this that we remind the world that Ben Stokes is actually from New Zealand and is just an honorary Englishman for the purposes of playing in our cricket team alongside Eoin Morgan, Gary Ballance and other notable Englishmen

He just has to make sure he doesn't take a dog or any fruit and veg with him. They really don't like that.

Batting lineup is so so bad and even worse without Stokes. Moeen, great player as he is, will get bounced out down there and won't take a wicket on their surfaces. Vince will bat at 3 and average about 12. We're so heavily reliant on Root and Cook it's a joke. And our bowling attack is so one-paced, why not take Plunkett for a bit of genuine pace? And why does Crane get picked ahead of Rashid? Crane has taken 16 wickets this season. That's not even talking about how Gary Ballance still gets a callup. 3-1 Australia with Stokes, 5-0 without.

I actually think Vince is a decent selection and may perform OK on the wickets down under. Ballance has had too many chances. I agree with Plunkett. He can bowl 90+ mph. Wood, when fit, can also crank it up there - but not selected. Overton is apparently quick but I haven't seen a lot of him. Unfortunately Anderson and Broad will be pie throwing medium pace, and ineffective, especially Broad. Much depends on Woakes (rediscovering his pace) and Stokes (if he makes it). And as for the spinners... The problem is if we only score 200 you won't win many matches.

I know what you mean about Vince....He has time against the quick bowlers....as long as the ball doesn't move much. No pace is a problem on those pitches...Ball has pace.....Plunkett is nearly 33 but he's up there but not going. The lack of sheer pace in England at the moment is lamentable.....Outside of Wood and Jamie Overton who are both always getting injured....real pace in the game is minimal.....Meaker's quick...but he wasn't good enough. This has to be the weakest squad I can remember....And I've seen a few. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Sep 2017 3.46pm)

With no Ben Stokes we can say goodbye to our ashes chances. Australia would not have dropped players. We must stop thinking that we should take the higher moral ground and take our best team. The aussies must be laughing their heads off and looking forward to a 5-0 win.
