Assuming he wants to play ie he's in a reasonably good state of mind, what do you reckon the chances are we'll see him on Saturday? He only played 70 mins today so should be pretty well rested by then.

As for the elephants they were s***e.

Yes, could say the elephants got stuck in the mud. Hope young wilf enjoyed the experience. That's it for my Afcon viewing, feel like I've done 90 minutes community service.

I agree with your points, but I do believe that he spoke French at home and sends a portion of his wages to Ivory Coast. So it's not a completely tenuous link.

He may speak French, but he was four years old when he came here, so also speaks English. Maybe as a second language, but equally well, and possibly better, as he has learnt the slang. It's not tenuous at all, he was born in Africa.

Yes, Wilf was born in the Ivory Coast. However, our own Johnny Williams, Welsh national team, was born in Kent. Can't remember reading the same indignation during the Euros...or did I miss something?

Considering that the French/Welsh contingent at Palace weren't ready to start on the first day of the season after the Euro's, I'm not holding my breath. It seems ridiculous that there's even discussion about stuff like this, if you take a 2 week holiday from work and go to America, you fly back on a Saturday and go back to work on Monday. But footballers seem to need an extended break every time they travel anywhere, despite travelling in luxury.

It hasn't really been mentioned perhaps because it gives the connotations of racism but the lad has a Croydon accent, has played tournaments for England and this whole Ivory Coast decision came about when he realised his at his prime age now and not going to be a starter for England in the next 2 tournaments.

I know we were all baffled when our very own Big Sam chose Townsend over Zaha last year but there was never any doubt of Wilf rejecting the call had it come. I don't think Zaha has been umming and arring about this for a while, there was never any hint of Wilf rejecting England if they wanted him.

Also, this may be too cynical but his "other" nationality is one of the top teams in Africa, as I mentioned earlier they won the AFCON last time and Wilf could well see another one in the future. I wonder how patriotic he'd of been had his second nationality been one of the African whipping boys of the competition.

Yes Wilf is Ivory Coast born but moved to England when he was aged 4. Lived in Thornton Heath I believe and went to school locally at Whitehorse Manor and Whitgift.
Represented England at U19, U21 and in a full senior match that was a friendly.

As it has been mentioned already SA only minded Southgates squad so had no imput into it.

Your reason for choosing to play for the Ivory Coast may be on the right lines however your facts are dubious to say the least. Even more so now they are out!

Do you play 3 competitive football matches on your two week breaks?

No. I'd have a lot of late nights a drink a troughful though.

I'd also point out that Wilf will have played 3 competitive matches in 2 weeks multiple times, and at a higher and more intense level.

So you should feel sorry for him then as he can't go out on the lash
