The Smiths should have stuck to making crisps and Bananarama shouldn't have even got off the boat. What were they all about?

When I was in hospital last year, a guy in the bed opposite me had News 24 on all day every day. That hourly news intro will haunt me forever!

If there is one band that tops my list though, it has to be Coldplay. Their success completely baffles me. They're massive and everyone seems to love them, but I will never understand why.

Honourable mention also has to go to Radiohead, Oasis (I actually don't mind Noel so much nowadays but have no time at all for Liam) and, a band I can't believe hasn't been mentioned yet, The Beautiful South.

I am going to add R.E.M. to the list.

I hate 'socially conscious' musicians. Michael Stipe is a bellend. Plus their music is terrible.

How did I not put the Beautiful South on my list? Thanks (or curses) for the reminder.

I concur.

If I had my way, Bono would be on trial at The Hague for crimes against humanity and not just for being a short arsed, hypocritical bellend with a messiah complex but also for churning out poor to mediocre rock music & dressing it up as avant garde.

Simple Minds 1984 onwards - embarrassing (though their acoustic set for Radio 2 in Hackney a fortnight ago was surprisingly very good)

1979-83 - Best musical output in the entire country. 6 albums. All superb.

So i worship them but think they are sh1t all the same. Like the first girl that dumped me back in '85.

The Wolfie Smith of Rock just with less sincerity.

Big Beatles fan but I still think Sgt Pepper is mahoosively overrated.

I never trust anyone who reckons its better than Rubber Soul or Revolver. The only reason the Beatles deserve the level of worship they have are those two albums (and to a lesser extent the White Album). Revolver might just be a contender for the greatest album of the era - possibly all time. Absolutely fantastic.
