Thank you for that.

The football team have come a long way since they were in the the old 'Sussex County League'.

Having followed them for 20 years it's been good to see them promoted twice and win a bit of silverware along the way. Rightfully ought to have been relegated last year but were given a reprieve due to Farnborough's huge debts.

In terms of the town, I believe in the 90s it was one of the fastest growing towns in Europe in terms of population. The facilities and amenities have unfortunately gone backwards.

Right, sorry folks, that's a brief history of a town more of you have never heard of!

Gary Croydon was the manager for quite a few years but is no longer at the club.I believe that current manager, Ian Chapman, is Brighton's youngest 1st team player !
I have been up to watch them a few times, availing of the facilities in 'The Bar' !
And of course former player Greg Luer is now at Hull.Well done to that lad.

Getting a bit off topic here, but BHTFC were well funded at one point, hence their rise up the pyramid....largely under Alan Pook I recall. Pook was also very successful at Worthing FC....he seems to be able to attract players and money into clubs.

Back on topic, I have to agree, parts of Brighton are shamefully maintained. Since I've lived in Hove, nearly 30 years now, successive councils have made a bollix of refuse collection. Numerous strikes down the years etc. Not helped by the summer influx of tourists which seem to stretch the services and facilities.

I love living in Hove, and I also like having the good parts of Brighton easily accessible without wishing to live there !

They've not really bought success though. They have always relied on youth players and have been in leagues with other much better funded clubs. In particular Guernsey (who haven't actually done as well as they'd hoped), Dover Athletic and Whitehawk.

He was sat in the crowd near me at the last game. On crutches at the moment.

On the football front, I have seen a 'Roy Pook' play in Sussex.Any relation to Alan Pook ?

Regards Hove, you mean "Hove actually" ! I know people who have a place in 'Western Esplanade'.

I think Roy is Alan's son. He used to play for BHTFC I believe.

I think they are related...Roy played for Alan at Worthing.

Of course it's '' Hove Actually " ! Western Esplanade, very nice...I'm on the seafront as well, but several rungs below a place there !

Our office is moving to Hove soon. Much nicer than Brighton but it's going to cost me a load more in train travel and I'm going to have to quit my gym.

Sorry folks of HOL, I might not be your resident beefcake from November onwards.

I'm going back a few years when I was involved in County League football.

In common with other ambitious clubs in the area at that time, Eastbourne Borough and Lewes being prime examples...they had the financial means to attract good players, and at youth level they would sign players and have large squads so that they could get the pick of the best players in the area.

I lost 2 entire age groups from my club to Lewes, as we had the best teams in our area at those levels !

Well, I exaggerate. It's £68 a year more for my season ticket!
