5) On a flight to New York I read a three page interview with Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin in the Weekend FT. When we landed I ended up in the immigration queue a few places behind him wearing exactly the same gear he was photographed in! As we passed each other I told him I had just read the FT interview and he said he thought it was one of the best he had done. He was a very nice man!

You do realise that you now have to supply pictures, don't you?

What a man wears in his own home is his own business. But a man who wears flip-flops outside (except maybe on the beach) is no Englishman. Personally I don't understand why flip flops are 'beachware' as they clearly don't stop sand getting on your feet.

Then again for me, beachwear is a white safari suit, a panama hat with a glass of gin and tonic. Unless I'm on a beach abroad, where a pith helmet and a Henry Marlin is acceptable in case the natives get uppity.
