Blimey. IDS drops a nuclear bomb, slates his own chancellor and resigns. He's absolutely spot on as well. Osborne needs to be shown the door. Too many gaffs lately.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

Osborne and Cameron need to be shown the door.... Cameron's reaction to IDS resignation was "shock and disappointment" according to BBC News - No David... the country was shocked and disappointed with you and Osborne's desire to make the rich even richer at the expense of the disabled and outlining this heartless plan in a Budget speech! This small majority has gone to their heads and highlights how important it is to have a credible opposition to take the government to task. If IDS felt compelled to walk then other big hitters are probably considering their positions I would imagine. Even more laughable is the line Cameron's closet allies have come up with saying the strategy was just a suggestion up for debate! Even if it was just a suggestion - it shows how callously and irresponsibly they are thinking, but in my 61 year's experience, things announced in a Budget speech are beyond the stage of being debatable suggestions!

How do you not look like you're sucking up to big business without being anti-business? The Tories have raised the living wage (presumably considered to help the working man) but have balanced it with a cut in corporation tax. If they hadn't done that, companies would cut jobs. Simple as that. How do you care for everyone in society through the benefits system without it being unaffordable? It's impossible. The Tories to their credit have tried to cut the welfare bill and shed some of the ridiculous waste in the state, and I think that's a good thing. But all the left will do is say that any cut to the state is evil, which it isn't. I don't believe that the Tories are any more inherently evil than the other parties, they're just anti big welfare and big state, which I think is the position of the majority of the country. Help the most needy, everyone else should jolly well work for whatever they get. The Corporation Tax is fair enough but when they introduced the plan to increase wages to the living wage they did it with plans to cut working tax credits. The result would've been people actually worse off. They only went back on that because the house of lords refused to vote it through. I suppose they'll take maximum credit come 2020. You've missed a very important detail in this budget. Osbourne is cutting disability payments and at the same time reducing Capital Gains Tax. This is where the ideology argument comes in and what all the noise is about. Taking from the really vulnerable and giving to the top 10-15% when they already have more and can get even more. So we're all in this together still? Not all Tories are evil, just enough at the top table to go too far to start a rebellion or be voted out. Jolly Well? Sounds very Tory. This is why I wanted a diluted Tory government in 2010 and not surprised this sh1t eventually happened this time around. Edited by Rudi Hedman (19 Mar 2016 10.35am)

They are backtracking more than an Italian tank driver. Like a biased ref to the big clubs going "La la la la la la la" with their ears covered whenever anyone with sense or morals objects. They're a disgrace but as long as half of households will be a few hundred quid a year better off they'll in again in 2020.

As far as I remember David I don't remember many asking for you and Osborne to make the lives of disabled people a misery to fund further tax cuts for the top 10% of this countries wealthiest inhabitants. This rebellion you speak of is a total non starter with Corbyn involved in it. Farage and UKIP have more credibility.

Chuka Ummuna isn't likely to step up and he's as big business, which I dislike, as you can get. At least Boris has an ounce of compassion. If we had a coalition again this sort of sh1t wouldn't happen.

It's a cultural thing and a rather tiresome one if I may say so. I agree completely.... I used to vote conservative but being one of the thousands from the emergency services who have been f***ed up the arse lube free and had around 60k stolen out of my pension I now happen to think that Teresa May is evil.... Swings and roundabouts eh? Edited by kennybrowns leftfoot (20 Mar 2016 12.36am)

He is more tuned into the people, or the electorate as they call it pre-election. The current lot are interested in figures for their own lot, whereas Blair & Brown were interested in figures for their own presentation and glory, which were always going to be short-term. BJ may not be a polished politican but at least he won't apply morally reprehensible hardship to people born with, or damaged with disability, or at least at the same time as favouring those with plenty of money to spare. The fact he has a broader appeal is clue enough. Broader meaning draws in those more than just the privileged or loyal tory and can appeal to the more compassionate because he sounds like it rather than Osbourne who's probably never met anyone on less than £25k a year out of his hi-vis vest.
