The Croydon I remember had the 'Railway' pub opposite East Croydon Station, the 'Dingwall Cafe' in Dingwall Road, 'Kings Cellars', 'Rui St George', 'Horn and Trumpet', 'Scamps' Disco, also 'Doctor Jims' ! Not forgetting Allders 'Bargain Basement' and 'Milletts'. And of course 'Snifters', 'Easy Street' and 'Kembers' !
Kermit I am 63 in November. Do I really come across as an old "Fuddy duddy" ? !!!! 63 and you know the rue!? Blimey, we were all 14/15 drinking in there on other peoples driving licences.
I was born in November 1952. Can't remember what the 'Rue' was called before. I might well have gone in to the old named establishment. Don't tell me you went to the lunchtime "Striptease" sessions in Scamps/ The Office !
Too young for the striptease but remember them going on at Scamps. Think Bro. Solomon went in once but was very disappointed to find out it was girls. Thursday nights in Shireff's before going onto the Swamp. Happy days.

It was either Scamps or Laurels not too sure, by that stage things had moved to the Underground and starting off the night in the Ship.

I saw the Meteors at the Swamp in my youth, I got splattered in the dance floor. Next time I saw the Meteors was at the Ace Café a few years ago being backed by the Hot Rocket Trio (a Croydon rockabilly band now split), I made the mistake of thinking that because since the last time I saw the Meteors I had filled out & survived many a mad pit including many of the Ramones ones I'd be fine. Wrong, within 10 seconds of the first song I bowed out with blood pissing from my nose...

And of course they used to have 'Live' bands in the 'Cartoon'. What about the 'Bierkeller' in the High Street ? Is it still there ? And wasn't 'Kembers' once called 'Westside' ? Saw Charlie Kray in there once.

Croydon gets slammed again. Apparently a 'short walk' from Selsdon Park Hotel to the town centre. A quick google map shows a 3 and a half mile walk taking over an hour

Was a big fan of the Underground. Good music. Then they closed it and it became joe bananas. Rubbish. Mind you it was better than the Blue schoolkid. Early to mid eighties were in the cats whiskers st reatham.

It was based in Laurels 'The Swamp'. The Thursday night club after Swamp finished was a bit more edgy though wasn't as good.. Wish I could remember its name. Underground was great for a while. Proper sweaty place with decent live music. The Ship surpriisngly as I found out last week is still going strong and not a Tesco Metro.
