Political Correctness claims merely to stand for tolerance and diversity. But just try to suggest that immigration ought to have limits, or that some cultures are incompatible with each other, and you'll see how far the tolerance goes. Free speech - forget it - it oppresses diversity.

Political Correctness is probably one of the most misunderstood and abused concepts ever. Initially the idea was a genius idea of social engineering, that works really well. The problem has become the idea that somehow we must all be poltically correct and thats the standard of being right (certainly not the cause of the founders who saw that by highlighting extremes, even absurd ones, it moved people more towards an acceptable medean point, at least in terms of language).

Tragically, people have now adopted it as the ideal norm for society, rather than a subtle, and subverive, means of manipulating and stimulating discourses in society into resolution.

I think there is ground for these, but typically they are labels of convenience. Hate Crimes definately exist, its just that its not applicable to even minor offences.

Unfortunately such jokes are seen as the preserve of your Bernard Mannings in a world when an option or observation on a particular group is enough to have your branded a racist.

Curious then how certain comedians can get away with jokes at the expense of the disabled and Tory MPs in the same breath.

Love how people say "you can't discuss immigration without being called a racist", yet the news every single day without exception, usually on the front pages, has some sort of (more often than not anti)immigration story.

Immigration is certainly not in the news every single day. But the fact remains that those critical of uncontrolled immigration are more often than not deemed racist.

Indeed, they shouldn't really be prosecuted as 'Hate Crimes', the decision should lie with the judge at sentencing (rehabilition in hate crimes and mitigating factors in hate crimes are somewhat different than normal assault etc).

I'd also argue that its prejudicial, given that arguably one of the most horrific hate crimes, is typically perpetrated against women (rape) and almost never prosecuted as a hate crime (not all rape, but a lot of rape stems from misogynist hatred).

I think they mean 'I can't discuss immigration without being called a racist', usually because very quickly it becomes about faux nationalism, preservation of the British way of life and race.

Mmmmm.

Yes, and many on the left call these media racist.

The print media don't care because those groups don't buy their publications and the broadcast media step extremely carefully over the issue....Trying to be politically correct in everything they do.

I would guess that if you searched the Mail and Guardian websites (I don't propose to do it) you would probably find that both have run roughly the same number of stories covering the issue of immigration. That being the case, it's rubbish to say that "you can't discuss immigration without being called a racist." It's what you say; not how often you say it.
