Very good post. To continue your line of argument, either we have money to buy a few new, better, quicker, probably younger players who will improve the team, or we don't. If we do then why shouldn't Hodgson have the benefit of the investment? He is being judged for the awful football we play but has had next to no money spent on the team. Most posters who are 'Roy out' stress that they have no unreasonable expectations regarding sexy football at Palace, and just want a bit more entertainment and endeavour. Why wouldn't a reinforced team under Hodgson provide that? If we don't have the money for any new players then all the more reason to keep Roy. No reason at all. For me, the real reason Roy's position is in doubt leading into next season (if it is) is a result of either one of two things: 1) he is genuinely retiring I don't mean this in an insulting way but I've genuinely never been so disappointed at the conduct of our fans. Roy has conducted himself honourably throughout and has done an excellent job - he should really go down in the clubs history for it. Instead, he's being hounded out. And for what? As you said, he's earned the investment, and if we're not investing then Roy is absolutely the man for the job.

I'm in agreement with your last 2 posts, which by the way would be perfectly at home in the ' Roy Out ' thread ! At some point we will need to continue without the safe pair of hands that Roy undoubtably is. From my perspective, now feels the right time. Roy can walk away with his dignity intact and that's the least he deserves. A new man ( or woman, this is 2021 ! ) can come in on a longer contact than the rolling 12 month deal that Hodgson has been on, and the club can re-set itself to start thinking longer term as opposed to the season by season approach currently employed. I suspect that Palace will attempt to do that

I'm not anti-Roy but some of the limp thrashings this year have been appalling, Liverpool, Chelsea and City away, and Burnley at home, and though Roy's hands have been tied to a great extent, Parish will have hated those performances as much as the rest of us, and I think that's what's ultimately convinced Parish it's the right time for a change. We need new, younger, faster players and a manager who has a clear idea what they want to put in place for the next three or four years, and that man can't be Roy.

I don't think there's much argument that another manager would have gotten more points than Roy with the current squad, but is there anyone arguing that we've seen anything resembling entertainment for most of this season? We've also had Lady Luck very much on our side, sometimes to hilarious levels like the Brighton game It is a risk to change Roy, just as it is to shake up the squad, but in my view we have been going downhill the last 18 months and we need a fresh perspective. Mainly, I'm just not sure I can bare another season of 30% possession and three shots a game. 100% on the money.

No but I wasn't comparing the two but merely addressing one single point that you made (many weeks ago) don't care if it was today or last year... was a poor comparison.

Agreed but I think questions should be asked how/why we pick up so many injuries in training, did Wilf have COVID? wasn’t aware of thst Edited by Spiderman (09 May 2021 5.50pm)

Just watched Hodgson, talking to Sky,, and it left me wondering if it is him that is not committing until the outcome of what he freely says will be an inevitable change in some personnel.
