The media are saying labour need to move central to win more votes. The media would love labour to get even more Tory lite.

I'd love labour to move left. People will be (even more) sick of cuts and poverty in 5 years.

The most successful party fought an anti austerity campaign and nearly swept the boards. I wonder why?

Could it be something to do with Scottish Nationalism? Perhaps they should rename themselves National Socialist?

Edited by derben (11 May 2015 4.23pm)

Interestingly the SNP have been right and left wing in their time.

The question of Scottish devolution didn't form part of their manifesto.

Many who voted no in the referendum voted SNP.

You are seriously implying that the SNP does not want independence for Scotland? That other National Socialist party didn't have "we intend to invade Poland at the first opportunity" in their 1933 manifesto either.

GODWIN.

The Saxon Earl of Wessex?

I like the link - very true I think.
In my case, as the SNP are both socialist and nationalist in outlook, calling them National Socialist was an attempt (a weak one I know) at a joke. I of course accept that the SNP are not Nazis in any way.

Nazis were anti-smoking, vegetarian promoting, teetotaler pushing outdoors types that believed in social unity through the national self.

Can't see that going down well North of the Border, where the hobbies are smack, domestic violence, buckfast, deep fried meat (anything) and drinking till your liver gives out, whilst fighting with your neighbours about which religious sectarianist football team you support.

You make some very good points here Jamie!

Although I didn't realise Paul Gascoigne was Scottish.

Nicola Sturgeon can bleat all she likes but she is duty bound to accept what Westminster determines.

This woman hates the Tories and she will prove a thorn in their sides throughout the term in office. She will have nothing positive to say about them at all and I await the stream of anti-Tory rhetoric. Can see a very frosty relationship between her and Cameron.

I can see her getting shot down more than once in the coming weeks until she realises she is not so powerful down this neck of the woods as she is up there in Jockland....She will learn the hard way especially if the government give her ALL the tax rights she craves in Scotland and let her run it on her own away!!.

This will play right into her hands. She can present herself as a matyr in the commons who is the only person standing up to the heartless tories. Would also play into the ongoing independence argument, allowing her to argue that only independence will bring fairness for Scotland.

This might apply to Hitler but not to the majority of top Nazis surely?

Sturgeon is not actually a Westminster MP is she, not one of the 56? Salmon, as a Westminster MP is probably going to be as much the SNP leader as she is.

Only if they invite her. She doesn't have a seat remember.

I fully understand that but she will brief her own MP's to get what she wants...OR TRY!!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Interesting article about the election.

All those in mainstream parties that campaigned on an anti austerity ticket saw their vote % go up.

Yet another link. We would all like to be 'anti-austerity', as if there is a choice, you know just ignore things and they will go away of their own accord. By the way did the 'anti-austerity' TUSC (or whatever their previous incarnations were called) vote go up? If it did, it must have been from a very low base as they averaged 260 votes per constituency.

Yes it did go up. It was their first election.

As I said, what were their votes in their previous incarnations, ie: Socialist Party; Socialist Workers Party and Solidarity.
