I'd be amazed if Hodgson moved upstairs. His entire career has been spent on the training ground. He made his name abroad and in international football over decades spent in set ups where his job was very much to coach the team and certainly not to buy and sell players. By the time he came back to coach in the Premier league the domestic game had already changed so that old school managers who ran the entire football side of the club were becoming a thing of the past, and he certainly wasn't that type anyway.

I'm sure he sticks his two penneth in when Freedman and Parish discus transfers, but he has almost no expertise in being a director of football.

Agree completely; in any case Freedman is in the role and, whilst opinions vary somewhat, he seems to be doing a pretty decent job and he is certainly highly influential in all football related matters.
The only appt I could possibly see for Hodgson is some kind of ambassadorial role but somehow doubt if it would interest him; as you rightly point out, all his career has been out on the training ground with the players - it will be a big gap in his life to give it all up.

we are not obliged to give Roy a sympathy role, which would be a total waste of money. Let him go, end of.

I don't think Roy is DOF material !
Probably better off in a PR role with a few TV appearances
Personally I think Howe is the perfect fit for Palace.

This is from Bournemouth FC fans forum in late December 2019 when they were in the relegation battle which they lost.
No we shouldn’t get rid of Eddie because he has achieved miracles and we owe him a relegation if that’s what it becomes. Had he taken over two years ago though with no connection to the club with the level of tactical ineptitude and mind numbing my boring football he is currently showing then we would be calling for him to go.

He desperately needs someone in his backroom team with more talent to help him refresh ideas. Our current playlist is old favourites that are flat tunes.

Totally out thought today by a more modern tactician playing enterprising football.

I am not sure this what Palace need Eddie Howe was loved by most Bournemouth fans for what he HAD done.

Suits his personality as well, his boring post game interviews made me wonder what his team talks were like.

Never been a fan of Howe, big spenders to rise through the divisions, hiding behind the small club/stadium rhetoric spewed by the media and did the same once in the PL where eventually the bad signings caught up with him. He left Bournemouth before his stock decreased further.

Lerma - 20+ Mil
Solanke - 20+ Mil
Ibe - 16 Mil
Billing - 15 Mil
Afobe - 12 Mil
Rico (who) - 12 Mil
Mepham - 12 mil
Lloyd Kelly - 12 mil

The poor signings list goes on and on. If Roy had spent this, he'd be slaughtered but Howe gets a pass because he's young and plays 'attractive' football. We don't need a manager who needs to spend a lot of money to compete.

If we really are looking for someone to replace Roy, I hope Parish is looking at a manager who has spent wisely, on a shoestring budget and improved players. Dyche is the only manager who has been touted that actually fits Palace in play style and financially. Ironically, he'd probably cost the most.

Good points made about Dyche, who of the so called shortlist, has the ability to at least keep us in this league.

Again yup.

Lampard may get the nod in a pro youth future given his preference for bringing on youth but is our academy, as good as it is, yet first team ready? Is he a couple of seasons too early?
