You're looking at the wrong thread mate. Nothing on here about Howe. This started with him remember!

Not so as the last time we went for a big name manager was the ex England manager Roy Hodgson and the time before that was ex England manager Sam Allardyce both of whom were successful here.

Leaving aside Tony Pulis it was actually the small name managers like Holloway and Pardew that have been less than sucessful here so by that token we should be going for Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola

Venables came after a successful Euro 96 and was sought after. Hodgson and Allardyce came after failure and disgrace during England tenure and we have them an opportunity back into management.

Eddie Howe is not, and never will be, in the same managerial league as all of the above.

Mourinho and Palace would be a very odd fit. Like I said about the other Portuguese bloke, these are Euro - orientated managers used to dealing with the upper elite and not scrappy mid-table pragmatists having to play with a more modest deal.

Getting Mourinho would smack of Terry Veg second time round under Goldberg.

Ageing squad, no money, crumbling stadium. Doesn’t feel like a “Special One’s” project.
But then again he has more money than he can spend in 3 lifetimes so maybe he will come for free, do a Leicester/Raneiri and become a Palace legend.
............and yes I have had a few.

Howe’s credentials do stack up in my opinion - especially when you consider what he had achieved at Bournemouth at such a young age (late 30’s early 40’s). Considering the starting point and subsequent journey it is comparable (even favourable) to some of the other names mentioned. I mean what had Roy, Harry, Big Sam, Moyes achieved aged 40? Even the special one was mid 40’s when he took the Prem by storm!
I think if we are to get a top manager - it will be have to be by recognising his potential and being prepared to wait for him to develop into one. Just the same as we do with players - Eze for example.

The shrewd move will be to back a young manager - with a some experience at the top level and give him the tools to thrive.
A well stocked conveyor belt of talent coming from the academy - for example.
Howe or Dyche both fit that criteria as far as I’m concerned - one got Burnley into Europe and the othe took lowly Bournemouth to 9th place in EPL - trumping our best season.
Both will get better as the gain more experience, so it just depends on the style of football you prefer us to play.

I believe Dyche would play a better brand football than he currently does if he had better players at his disposal. We have more to offer a young ambitious manager like Dyche than Burnley do imo, good squad, developing academy, improving training facilities, stadium development and huge catchment area (if we get it right on the pitch).

Honestly, I think both are a good fit and the stand out candidates for a club at our stage of development I’d be delighted with either one of them.
