The name of the game Nick is to gain as much rent as possible so yes in a way this is true. Ultimately though the market (like any other market) is driven by supply and demand with the main determining factor being the 300k+ foreigners arriving year on year which naturally pushes the prices higher and higher each year. You may not like this answer but as a landlord I can categorically tell you that that is the truth Nick – more and more people arriving and not enough stock to go round means rents will just keep going up for the foreseeable future. The country’s immigration policy – not landlords are pushing up the rents.

To be fair Nick - I don’t think any landlord would wish to keep a residential property empty. Would not make any sense. Probably more applicable to holiday homes/second homes etc That's why there should be a hefty 'empty house' charge. A bit like the 'bedroom tax' that so many on here support. (Cue the "it's not a tax" responses) Nick, I would be obliged if you could answer my questions about how Corbyn has costed his rent plans. Before you appear to ignore them and pick a fight over the Bedroom Tax that you have instigated.
It's a simple question. I can, but you can look for it yourself, it's widely available if you search Corbyn Housing Policy. As requested by the mods, I will no longer further engage with you.

Very few are family's Legal (normally couples or sharers) but I would say that over half are now from Eastern Europe. I actually actively try and find Eastern Europeans as they appear to make great tenants. I think I know where this is going lol

I have looked nick,as I said before it is an absolute none starter you simply cannot build 240.000 houses in a year.
The Conservative government elected in 1951 pledged (and succeeded) to build 300,000 homes a year. It all depends on priorities and political will at the highest levels and what voters clamour for. There are 418 upper and second tier councils in the UK. England has 353 unitary, upper and second tier councils. There are 32 unitaries in Scotland, 22 unitaries and Wales and 11 unitaries in Northern Ireland. So,an average of 287 homes per authority. How rent controls would work would be by undoing the Thatcher government's 1980's near abolition of rent controls and reintroducing what served us ok for more than 60 years under governments of various hues... And who actually do you class as an immigrant? There must be loads of people that have simply moved here - guy in my road was moved to the UK by his company, doesn't know how long for but at least 5 years. There's an Irish family moved here over 20 years ago, now retired Are they immigrants?
As another example, my grandmother lived here for more than 65 years after immigrating here from Romania...was she an "immigrant" all her life or did she become a "Brit" after taking nationality or alternatively after a certain number of years here?Or in the eyes of some, could she and her ilk never be "Brits"?

A foreigner can become British, it just needs time. An immigrant in my eyes is someone from abroad who's first allegiance isn't to the UK.....England, Scotland...Wherever they laid their hat.
