Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

There is some bizarre idea proposed by some HOL posters that we ‘can’t afford to replace Wilf’ and therefore the 4 year deal at £200k per week is good value?! I think this is very short sighted. We signed Eze for a reported £16M on a contract reportedly worth circa £30,000 a week. These players are now worth ITRO £40M plus! Wilf is still a good player but his impact and effectiveness is on the decline and will continue to be so. Replacement players can be picked up for reasonable fees and on sensible wages. They can also then be worth a heck of a lot more than we paid for them (Guehi and Andersen being two other examples) Forget about Wilf and the ridiculous contract being suggested…source his replacement and push onwards and upwards! COYP!

No one has a clue what we have offered or what we will do. Is fans are always the last to know. But history shows we usually do stuff last minute.

I wonder how serious is the Lazio offer? Why hasn't he signed? Or my guess is it is one of those if you don't get our No 1 target we're interested offers. If I'm correct then Zaha might not sign for anyone until Sept.

Pure speculation but maybe Wilf will hold off doing anything for a few months until he is fully repaired. I read somewhere that we are letting him turn up for treatment and light training. All a bit bizarre if true.

The main thing we must do is withdraw all contracts for him, if he cant find what he wants and comes back to us, we hold all the cards

A journo, looking at the situation , and saying that’s what he thinks would keep Wilf , from the big money elsewhere . Then they all follow because they know it’s eye catching. They do it all the time. Palace have probably put a decent offer on the table. But if there was any truth in the £200,000 pw then they are throwing a hand grenade in that dressing room., regardless of how it’s structured.

4 year deal for a 30 year old doesn't seem as far fetched as Xhaka has left the Arse on a 5 year deal and they managed to get £21.4 million as well !?! Admittedly that will only buy them around a quarter of Rice. A whole bowl costs a bit more. Suspect Palace's budget runs to a few grains at the moment. Still don't think a 4 year deal for Wilf is a good idea based on age and possible injuries. 2 year deal tops.

With the greatest of respect to Wilf he needs to make his mind up soon otherwise it bites into pre-season and come the first day of the season he won't be match fit. If he signs a new deal for us I would be very miffed if he isn't available for the start of the season or is only 50% match fit. That said I suspect he has probably told the Palace hierarchy what he intends to do. It's just not been made public yet.

I have no problem with a 4 year deal as long as the club had a termination clause where they could get rid of Wilf for £x pounds. To balance this out I would give Wilf a generous release clause so if Real Madrid ever did come knocking he could leave with minimal compensation to the club.

Floating the idea of Wilf being offered 200k pw is good for Wilf in terms of negotiating with other clubs. It's very possible his agent is trying to convince other clubs that's what they'll need to offer. For all we know the club stuck to their position of only offering a one-year deal to those over 30 (although this is probably unlikely). We'll probably never get the complete story, but the longer it drags on the more people will start throwing mud at Wilf based purely on speculation.
