In a good way, this thread reminds me of a festive version of the Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch.

When I tell my kids the reality of my past Christmases I feel like that - and they generally laugh. They don't believe I used to get Satsumas for Christmas.

Excellent point and very true. My mates do not believe me about how poor we were but I did a straw poll of people born in the sixties and before and this thing about no central heating, coal fires and ice on the inside of the windows was a common theme.

I wanted an Action Man for Christmas all I got was an empty box my dad told me it was an Action Man Deserter

One more point

If it wasn't for Emma Peel I'd have had nothing to play with Christmas Day.

I worked in a pub. The brewery used to allow for wastage out of every tap when pub opened for a session. It all went into a slop tray which was fed into the Mild Barrel. The only exception was you couldn’t use Guinness slops as it didn’t mix very well.

Earliest Christmas I can remember is 1974, I was an only child so I was a little bit spoilt, Scalextric, Subbuteo, tons of Action Man stuff, jeep, tank etc, a football game called ‘Striker’ I remember climbing the walls with excitement Christmas Eve while I was watching Morecombe and Wise.

Ah yes, Morecombe & Wise - two blokes who shared a house and a bed, and no-one even thought to wonder if they were gay...

Their writer, Eddie Braben, talked about this. He said Eric wasn't keen on the idea but Braben said Laurel & Hardy did the same thing and convinced him except he insisted on smoking a pipe when he was in bed because it would make him look more manly - not sure about that but it worked for him.
