If he was that desperate to leave he would prepared to lower his £6m+ annual wage to attract interest but I doubt if he has given his agents that option, he appears to put more effort into his hair style than he does his football these days. He has missed his chance of moving on by not showing over the last 2 years what he is capable of, assuming he still is capable of beating players. He used to beat three and turn back to beat them again before taking a shot, now he hardly ever beats one!

With Wilf on the field there is always the possibility that he will produce a magic touch which gets the goal that wins the game - this is why he is never benched or rarely substituted - however, his knowing that he is pretty much the first name on the team sheet (given his current attitude / performance levels) isn't necessarily the best thing for him. The big questions (for me) are - & if you drop him or substitute him during a game, will it fire him up to come back stronger or will he just drop deeper into sulk & moan land Almost certainly this one.

PV will not tolerate our talisman ruin the plot much longer! The next step is placing him on the bench or take him off at half-time if moaning continues. Towards the ref or even worse, his own teammates.

Ronaldo started on the bench this weekend for Juventus, so why not WZ at Palace?

However once it closes IF no other club has come in for him I would hope the manager spells it out to him how he has to behave and I agree yes if necessary bench him. Its anyone's guess how he would react to that, I'm not sure he has the wherewithal to react positively? Edited by BeckenhamSteve (24 Aug 2021 4.58pm)

I wouldn't be too hasty in writing Wilf off just yet. We all know how frustrating he can be, and it's entirely possible that his behaviour on the pitch has cost him another chance with a top 6 club. But it's part of who he is and at the age he is now, he's unlikely to change. Let the manager manage him. I think that at least to begin with, he will have an ally in PV. I'm looking forward to Olise and Eze returning to take some of the pressure off of Zaha.

We have Zaha! Wow. And Wet Spam have Antonio. And the difference in attitude and willingness to play for the team is striking.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his resurgence form in the first half of last season was when heplayed more centrally as an out and out forward. He and Schlupp were played too wide on Saturday and I would reckon that this combined with the loss of pace is at the root of his frustration. The absence of Van Aanholt overlapping and providing a separate threat also won’t be helping IMO.

Not looking good. £80m 2 years ago was not insane. Maybe could have got £70m. Now he is unsaleable. 120k/wk, current form, temperament. That boat has sailed.

I think a lot of us thought Wilf had gotten slower and perhaps this was an issue, but apparently he has been clocked as the third fastest player in the PL this season [Link] This perhaps shows that the problem is mental and not physical. For his sake and ours I hope he re-finds his form.
