Benteke (unless he accepts a much reduced basic with a generous goal/assist bonus structure)
van Aanholt would appear to leaving anyway.

Should cut the wage bill a bit.

I agree. Would like to keep Cahill, to assist in helping any young/ new CB we may wish give a try

I do find it quite amusing the way some of the commentators on TV say we face a major problem with so many players being out of contract. I don't think it needs to be a problem at all, as there are only a handful of these guys we should be keeping.

I'd definitely keep these five:
- Benteke on a 1-2 year extension (his current form makes this essential)
- Townsend on a 1-2 year extension
- Cahill on a 1 year extension
- Ward on a 1 year extension
- Luka on a 1-2 year extension

We should definitely lose Hennessey, Wickham, Sakho, Dann, PVA, Clyne, Batshuyai and probably Kelly and McCarthy, only reconsidering one or two if any of the top 5 turn us down.

This would mean that we still retain the core of the first team squad and can supplement it with some new young signings and a few promotions from the Academy/Development team.

Thank goodness that you aren't the manager then

You are happy to trim our squad of 25 down to 16 so would you mind telling us which of Development Squad or under 18s you feel would warrant a place in a Premier League squad and which young players from outside you feel are good enough and cheap enough to buy to fill up the rest of the squad places?

Before you dismiss that out of hand, a 17yo & an 18yo both made their debuts & scored for their respective clubs in the EPL, our very own Mitchell also scored his 1st EPL goal for us, & he was playing for the U23's last season.

We have an exciting crop of youngsters in the U23's & the U18's, dont get me wrong, as a few others who watch their games have noted, they dont think they are ready for 1st team duties(yet), BUT, if you dont give them a go, how will anybody know?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Quite. I would LIKE to live in a much bigger house, send my kids off to an expensive boarding school, have 3 luxury foreign holidays a year... you get the picture?

The upgrades you mention require 1 availability 2 willingness to come to us 3 compatibility and 4 very deep pockets if you are talking prem-ready players. The latter is a must in a team like ours as we do not have the depth of squad to allow expensive marquee signings to find their feet

Perhaps there are a few youngsters ready to come through and the closed season will give an idea which. But not to fill that may gaps at one go.

I count 19 as follows:
Guaita, Butland, Henderson, Mitchell, Ferguson, Ward, Hamman, Cahill, Tomkins, Kouyate, Reidewald, Luka, Eze, McArthur, Townsend, Zaha, Ayew, Mateta, Benteke.

Add to this 4 signing and 2 loanees and you have a squad of 25 not to mention Academy players like Rak Sakyi who has already trained with the 1st team. I don't claim to know who should be signed but if we have a budget of c£50M as has been mentioned (also, don't forget we bid £30M for Sarr last year, so hopefully these funds are still available), then this should be quite feasible. I think we need a bit more positivity from people! COYP

Fortunately they're wrong. Surprisingly, really obviously wrong.

This shows that none of McArthur, Schlupp, Kelly or Henderson are out of contract as they signed extensions this season. By necessity, they were contracted for this season, so the extension at a minimum covers next season.

The following appear to be out of contract, with 3 not having played at all:

Benteke, Wickham, Batshuayi (End of Loan), Townsend, McCarthy, Van Aanholt, Clyne, Ward, Cahill, Sakho, Dann, Hennessey

I would now keep Benteke plus Cahill, Clyne and Townsend.
Others to go

I think Henderson is out of contract as his was a 1 year extension.

We need 3 goalkeepers in first team squad and They will be Guita and Butland plus possibly one of u23 goalkeepers

Right back Both Ward and Clyne may be kept as Ferguson has not returned from injury.

Left Back Mitchell and Let PVA go

Central Defender Are any of U23 ready? Sakho we can not afford so he will go. Dann may go to but he could be kept as a fairly cheap backup. Cahill will wait until he sees who manager is

Midfield is where age is showing McCarthy may stay if we decide to sell Luka which I think is possible. The U23 have a few promising midfielders but are they ready to be regulars.

Attacking Midfielders - Townsend is still EPL quality on his day and we need some backup.

Strikers - The fact is that none of our strikers have impressed but is this because our service is so poor. Wickham and Bats to go. Benteke to stay and get another striker who challenges for his place to push him
