Roy manages well considering what he has to work with at Palace, the quality, strength, depth & age of the squad compared with the top 6 teams in the premiership. As far as we are concerned lets just hope Roy & Ray can get the players heads up, some confidence restored and Palace hit the ground running on Boxing Day against Villa, at least Benteke will be back as a focal point up front. Yes indeed, I suppose we will have to just watch David Coote's decision after every similar incident and then go bonkers when he lets one slip. Nice post.

I've had the Kouyate argument on another thread. That he was found wanting against the most potent attack in the Premier League shouldn't come as a surprise. I really don't think any combination of our centre backs would have stopped the rout such was the quality of Liverpool's finishing. Quite how you can describe Roy as '' naive '' given the number of matches he has managed in at this level I don't get. As for yesterday's game management, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't ...at 0-3 down you can try to shut up shop and get criticised for that or keep trying to get back into the game and leave holes at the back... Where did you hear the rumour of Roy offering to resign ? Ultimately I think it was just one of those days when most of what was on target went in. Hard to take but we need to move on from it. All very correct.

It is a disgrace and a humiliation. An ageing team just could not cope with a more vibrant energetic outfit. Given the above, I am far from convinced that we will survive in the PL. If you're referring to this season well we almost have half the points we need, but if you're referring to next season and beyond it all depends on two new additions in the mould of Eze, Riedewald and ferguson and considering we found these players shows we can do it.

Haven’t read the whole thread... For what it’s worth I thought we were terrific first half, just lacked the final ball. Had Ayew squared to Zaha the dynamics of the game would have changed. Second half I thought we gave up a bit. Tough to come out knowing the games over against probably the best team in the world. Liverpool’s finishing was like something I’ve never seen before. So ruthless and Guaita had no chance with any. I thought we played far worse against Chelsea when they beat us 4-0. I think it’s a case of applauding Liverpool rather than ripping into the Palace players. It was a strange game and our performance didn’t deserve a result like that. I guess a positive is that it was a game we expected to lose anyway. Roy is still the man, we’re playing attractive football, we have some exciting young players in Eze and Reidewald, Benteke is back in the goals and we have 18 points from 14 games. It’s a gradual build and this is just a minor bump in the road. COYP Edited by Goal Machine (20 Dec 2020 10.35pm)

I think what we learned today that unless given maximum protection from 3 DMs then our defenders are hopeless. Clyne is a shadow of the player he was and not up to it and our ageing CBs must be the slowest in the Prem. PVA has a bit of pace but no brain, he's like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. Also our midfielders are very one paced. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we should have gone for Gallagher instead of Bats to put some energy into the team

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we should have gone for Gallagher instead of Bats to put some energy into the team I am broadly in agreement with these sentiments. We have only played 14 games and the players are not going to get any younger nor be more mobile as the season progresses, besides players in the twilight of their careers are more susceptible to injury and can take longer to recover depending of course on the type of injury. I have genuine concerns about how the season could progress but I accept that my 'Glumbucket' views are not shared by many.

Yes, Liverpool made them look that way but seriously, how often do you see that level of finishing even from a team that has one of the best forward lines in world football ? We all know that the average age of the squad needs to be addressed. Especially in central defence. That's up to Parish and Freedman to sort out. And indeed hindsight is a wonderful thing. I like the look of Gallagher too, and had we not been offered Bats, he would have been our player this season. And Bats doesn't look the player he was 2 seasons ago.
