Our youngsters have come on and added a bit of urgency and possession and Oxford have drifted out of it a bit.

That's why we should have used them at the end of last season. Get some young lads on with a point to prove ahead of the old guard who were already on holiday.

Didn't watch it. How many goals did he create?

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

Absolutely. I tried to big him up the other day but he was terrible.

I thought he did OK. No better or worse than the rest of midfield. Schlupp and Wilf looked the best players, I thought, despite some sloppy play.
Nice to see we still have done zero work on set-pieces. They got free headers from corners whilst none of ours got anywhere.

I know it was ‘only’ a friendly but I thought Max looked decidedly average in a game that should be perfect for him to shine. Was well placed a couple of times to shoot / score and didn’t even trouble the goal keeper.

I like Max a lot and want him to do well but I’m yet to see what all the fuss was about

Think that first half display from the first team players that lost 7 of the last 8 last season proved again how poor we are for a premiership side. Definitely need some 1st team replacements otherwise we are in massive trouble. Thought Ayew and Townsend were terrible. As for that penalty:-( Wholesale changes In the second half for both sides worked in our favour especially with them making earlier changes than us which allowed us to get in the lead before our younger players came on. Good to see Kelly back as well, we have missed having him as a back up Central defender. Impressed with Mitchell, who looks a good backup for PVA. Just a friendly I suppose, but I’m not hopeful of us surviving this season with this squad and as good as is it to see our younger players being involved I’m not sure they are yet up to it - we shall see who comes in over the next few weeks and who leaves. Charlton and Millwall will be harder opposition and even though they are friendly’s fans will not want to lose these matches?

Horses for courses and Max is on the wrong course. It’s time for him to move onto a different league, the premier league is not for him.

I wouldn't go quite that far but Meyer did flatter to deceive and he failed to make good choices when he got into the box.

It was good to see the youngsters given a run out. look forward to seeing more of them in the coming friendlies.

With the signing of Eze imminent Max will be even further down the pecking order so it seems he has no future here

We were 1-0 down when he came on and 2-1 up 10 minutes later after missing a penalty.

Yes, but why was that?
1. Oxford changed half their team at half time and took time to settle and we took advantage.
2. We changed our formation from 4-4-2 to 4.3.3 at the beginning of the second half
3. What did Meyer contribute to the missed penalty opportunity and the two goals? At best he speeded up the play with some neat movement and passing but when he had the opportunity to make a real difference in the box he failed to deliver.

Well at least one thing we learned from today is that Schlupp won’t be taking any more penalties.
