I agree about Kouyate. I think he's more of a CB. With the injuries to Tomkins and Cahill, both of whom may well struggle to be back for the start of the new season, we may need to play him alongside Dann. I think McArthur is on the decline, sadly, and am not sure how much he will feature next season. You are right about the lack of movement. I seem to recall many occasions where a player looked up, couldn't see a forward pass, get closed down, pass sideways/backwards or even lose the ball. Occasionally there were some good interplay, often involving PvA and Wilf. As for McCarthy, I think he may have 2 years left on his contract and if so, I'm inclined to keep him for the coming year. I remember Danny Murphy talking about Roy drilling his players to keep their shape, and how over time their analysis tool which showed the large circles of areas each player covers during a match got smaller and smaller each week, as they ventured less and concentrated on keeping shape. Shape is important but being too rigid leads to the lack of movement that you mention, which i causing us problems. It seems only a few players have that license to move and create space we so desperately need. I don't think this is down to 'ageing squad' which is quoted on here a lot, it's simply Hodgson's way so don't expect it to change for another season.

So now we are told even Celtic, are keen to get him . Where the hell were all these outfits when we dragged him out of Everton, for next to nothing? Can only think he was expected to be a injury case, and has proved otherwise . So if they are that keen make sure they pay well for him, and get on with revitalising the squad.

Watching McCarthy run around, break up play and play the simple pass suggests he'd be perfect in the role of feeding the better player a la Graham Roberts and Glenn Hoddle, i.e the minder for the play maker. He played best at Everton acc to some of their fans when he was supporting Gareth Barry, McCarthy's form declined before his injury when Barry went. I reckon it's why Villa want him - to look after Jack Grealish. But it looks like we can get nearer ten than 5 mil if all these others are interested as well. If he thrives elsewhere it might be another Sorloth scenario!

I suspect he will indeed thrive. He is an established PL player, an international and has just played a full season in the PL with no fitness issues. £10m for that experience and under 30 in terms of age is cheap. I have always thought he is underestimated at Palace. He has a fantastic range of passing for a start as he has demonstrated on many occasions.

he does have a good range of passing, but he tends to do the worldy crossfield pass better than he does the well-weighted through ball - I like him and a lot of his work can go unnoticed, but he usually does one utterly crap thing per game, an over hit pass when someone is clean through or his charging into one of his own defenders to set up Wolves's second goal in the recent 0-2 - could be a bit of rustiness, but I think some aspects of his technical play are a bit lacking.

All I know is he is a better player than Kouyate and McCarthur is on his last legs. Keep him.

we can only sell players other teams actually want to bid for, if we are bringing in new players some will have to move on. £5m & (prob) 70k a week into the wage budget aint to be sniffed at, especially when kouyate is just as good as him.

I was not that impressed with him to be honest but I agree that MacArthur is on his last legs and so if really good money comes in then he should go - if not we keep him and offload others.

Unless he's had a fall out with Roy I don't get why he would leave us to go to a club like Villa. The Celtic thing I get.. It's his boyhood club.. Personally I think we should keep him.

A player that’s never recovered from the near career ending injury at Everton. Personally don’t rate him at all ....if we can get somebody to take him there is much better about.
