Certainly in the age stakes there isn’t a lot between us and Watford.
One big difference no matter how poor the recruitment might be is ,there has been trust between the board and its manager . And although it’s off thread a bit to say so here that is the only thing that floats Palace right now.
The last nine matches played at virtually two a week has exhausted nearly all of the smaller squads, the older ones most of all.
I felt Watford would survive, given normal circumstances, but the old legs did go.

Deeney has scored many more goals for Watford than Benteke has for us in recent times.

Benteke has scored the grand total of 6 goals in his last 75 games, whereas Deeney has scored 23 goals in his last 75 games.

How many penalties though?

Yes - it was like they just wanted to have the the oldest defence in the league - so we were slow and caught out so much.

Sarr was our only real attacking outlet and he was injured a bit.

Welbeck looked useful at the end but again suffered with injuries as predicted.

And Deeney played a whole season with a bad knee.

Midfield was non existent.

The fact Sunday was probably one of our best performances says it all - too little too late.

Or knew Dawson was one of the biggest thugs in football. Sorry but that is true... watch the assault on Speroni which went unpunished by that t**t Clatternburg

Good point and the 5 sub ruling is hardly helping the weaker squads either. Not sure if it is really fair if it is still in place at the beginning of next season.

I think back to 3 subs but keep the drinks break.
Seems to work well having a break imo.

Going the American way? - we'll soon have four quarters in "soccer" instead of two halves at this rate!
Let's face it, they aren't really drinks breaks at all - they're another opportunity for managers to coach their teams. I'm not sure I want that.

I certainly agree that 5 subs should be a no-no because the advantage that gives to the big clubs who already have enough of an advantage with their financial muscle and squad strength.

I hope so. If they want to keep the Premier remotely competitive ,it has to remain at three. It already has some benefits for the bigger clubs. When you consider we only had subs, to stop teams playing ten men because of injury. Fair enough that’s an improvement.
Three can become a tactical advantage, surely five would only be a further tactical measure to suit the clubs with big pockets,

My view is that the PL will revert back to 3 subs and there will not be a drinks break.

Five subs should be kept because it enables the smaller clubs to improve their squads with actual game experience, the big clubs can do what they like on the pitch anyway.

Watford gone and i laughed I never laughed so much sine Granma caught her left t*t in the mangle

as for subs 3 is enough but i think a injured goalkeeper can be replaced if all 3 subs have been used as its a specialist position

That's actually not a bad idea. A goalkeeper is almost never subbed off for anything but an injury so it makes sense to keep the playing field level by always making sure a team has one. In fact the last time I remember seeing a tactical sub the goalkeeper refused to leave the pitch. I forget who it was... might have been De Gea?

I think it was Jasper Cillessen who tried to refuse to be subsituted at the end of extra time for the Netherlands against Costa Rica. Louis van Gaal brought Tim Krul instead, and they won.
