Actually, there was an article earlier this year I think, whereby Brighton were in the top 20 (or so) spenders over recent seasons.

We have just a few weeks to plan for next season. Roy Hodgson, who now says he "doesn't know what more he can do" should hand in his resignation and retire He has obviously lost the dressing room and both he, his tactics and the players are embarrassing the supporters. We are rapidly becoming a laughing stock. No time for messing about because we are nailed on certainties for relegation in the new season unless there is fresh blood. Difficult to choose a new manager but better done now than after a dozen matches as a crisis move. If Mr Parish does not see the approaching crisis and take the necessary action we are destined for the Championship and, eventually, worse.

These were comments relating to our position at present with the injuries and suspensions, indicating that his options are limited and I totally understand the point he made.

You are certainly not alone. I felt that way at the start of this season and thought we'd be relegated this year. We've over achieved given our aged injury prone squad with limited fore power. Last couple of months have been painful but given what's at his disposal Roy still deserves credit

I don't really blame Roy for where we're currently at - sure, he could have rotated the side better and I still can't believe he brought McCarthy on at half time against Villa as if he'd turn it around, but the root cause lies behind the scenes. Everyone saw what a shambles last summer and the previous January was. That was always going to bite us on the arse. Then we thought we'd get Bowen in January, didn't, and he's done a lot for West Ham. The one positive was Cahill who is a very good, very short term solution to a problem that wasn't at the top of the priority list. The previous windows it was the hope that killed us. The idea that surely we'd find a couple of gems. Now it's the reverse and everyone's resigned to the expectation we'll do sod all. I so hope we're wrong.

Yes Roy has kept us clinging to the PL for the last 3 seasons. In that he has been a success. Now he has run out of ideas. During those 3 seasons there has been little or no investment for the club's medium/long term future. Whatever manager we have next season, Palace are now standing at a precipice. With the squad available now I don't think there's a manager alive (or dead) who could succeed. As for the players, I doubt any of them have the integrity to feel embarrassed for being paid so much and producing such dross. Edited by Eaglehamster (21 Jul 2020 4.33pm)

Exactly this. 12 months from now the Palace gravy train will be pulling into its final stop, Championship Central, and the freeloaders will be off, many of whose contracts coincidently expire at the same time. Remarkable. All aboard!
