It's that time of year again when I support an additional 5 or 6 teams as well as Palace each weekend.

Yeah, it's a sad commentary on our own dismal form that defeats in their last games for Villa, Norwich, Newcastle and - as things stand - West Ham have left me quite cheerful this week. How pathetic.

Newcastle have been defeated in 78 PL games as an away side in London, the most defeats of all teams in the competition's history in the capital.

Back in the day they lost so many in a row one season or so.
Then played us and won 1-0
Beardsley.

We are beginning to hang our survival hopes on the poor performances of teams just above and below us and in the last few days, results including the predictable West Ham defeat tonight, have gone our way.
Hopefully,we may get a result, perhaps 1-0 between two cr#p sides, who are among the two lowest scoring teams in the Premiership and that may spark a long overdue revival in our fortunes.

They are 6 pts behind us with an inferior goal difference and are at Liverpool on Monday.
A win for us on Saturday will be a huge boost for our chances of survival given that all the teams below us are playing away over the weekend/Monday and they won't all get 3 points, in fact none of them might emerge victorious.I am not that confident we will either!

almost all the home games this season have been pretty even, apart from Brighton. we've nicked a few we shouldn't have, amd lost a few we shouldn't have.

but I suppose the bottom line is the vast majority should have been draws. Saturday is unlikely to be different unless one team finds its shooting boots

There are parallels between Palace and Newcastle which are highlighted here:

One big difference is that they have spent money and are still playing like the underdogs in every game. At least we have the excuse that we're relying on Saga members to grind out results.

Newcastle net spend as follows :

2019-20 £33.5 Mill
2018-19 £10 Mill
2017-18 £21 Mill

Newcastle net spend over these seasons is £64.5 Mill.
Our net spend over this period is £8 Mill.

Our net spend was roughly the same as Newcastle's in 2018-19 and much more than their's in 2017-18 (£41 Mill), but this season we shelled out around £7 Mill in transfers yet received £50 Mill from the AWB sale.

Which explains why we are once again flirting with relegation.

Three disappointing defeats in a row before a vital season defining, must win game.

Defeats for our relegation rivals give us an opportunity to climb away from the pack with a much needed win.

Time to bring in a motivational speaker/ shrink to get the best out of our aging, clapped out squad.

For nominations, what about ex Palace legend Pardew for a vital team talk ???
