Me too, but he sort of backed off and said if it had been given VAR wouldn't have overruled it. Mind you they anchor said it was a penalty, which I'm inclined to agree with.

First 25 minutes we were really poor in possession and kept giving the ball away, but the longer it stayed at 0-0 the more we seemed to settle. Man City will pick it up in the second half and Mahrez is in great form and can come on, but their defence looks so poor we might get more chances. Tosun having a great first half, unlike Wilf who still looks out of sorts.

Crossing everything and making sacrifices to the gods!

Of course there are differences, but essentially he same thing happened. Both players got in front of the other and initiated contact. Fernandinho wasn’t going for the ball, he got his body across Tosun’s and initiated contact. As Zaha did. I agree, I probably would have been furious if they had one like Zaha’s go against us but I feel, in a way, it has. Tosun’s lack of appeal doesn’t explain anything. I’m not saying there wasn’t contact between him and Fernandinho, I’m saying the contact was created by Fernandinho getting part of his body on front on Tosun’s, jut as Zaha did against Stones.

The two challenges were very similar and, in my opinion, both went against us. Realistically it should have been either no pen and no foul or pen and foul.

Wilf leaned in so quickly that he almost bounced off the defender. The defender used his hands to protect his space and pushed back. All of this happened so quickly that it looked as if Wilf's going down was the result of a push, but I think the no-call was... fair.

The Tosun encounter was even quicker. (Tosun's first touch, by the way, was Touch of the Day brilliant.) Just as Tosun was accelerating to receive the ball he'd looped, the MC defender flashed across Tosun's path. The defender may have dragged his feet cleverly, and Tosun couldn't QUITE avoid clipping them -- just barely. But the whole thing happened so fast, and the MC player hit the pitch so seamlessly, that Tosun really didn't have a good argument. If, somehow, Cenk had been able to skip over -- mid-stride -- it would have been another amazing goal.

Both calls were close but, to my eyes, defensible.
