'British' to a lot of people means as it was before the war. Whether that is right or wrong, I've spoken to people who are grateful for the fact that it is more ethnically diverse. This is their own definition of what is less 'British' i.e. fewer British born people and to those largely white middle class people that is unquestioningly desirable. That is a notion that alone has about as much substance as that of being British itself.

The difference is I don't believe such people are interested in forming their own definition of Britishness, rather they want to take that identity away from others by rendering it outdated, narrow minded etc. The same people similarly resisting change by voting 'Remain'

That's just hysterical b0ll0cks mate. I'd worry more about your own blood vessels there.
You shared a platform with Muslims? Are you some sort of activist or something? You must feel very righteous. I haven't even shared a park bench with a Muslim. Nothing against them, it just hasn't happened.

What is hysterical b*ll*cks? My little joke about bus conductors? I thought it quite funny.

I bet you have shared a park bench with Muslims, they sneak in everywhere you know.

I don't worry about Muslims, I worship Cromm Cruaich. Anything else is just Johnny Come Lateley.

His name, and let me make this quite clear, is Sadiq Khan. And he is one of our own. A Tooting boy.

Did you come across Gurkhas, Fijians, Australians, Kiwis, Irish, Indians and squaddies from god know how many other commonwealth countries?

How would you feel if that Spitfire had been flown by a Pole or a Sikh?

The England (Britain) of Reach for The Sky or In Which We Serve never really existed.

I've served with Ghurkas, excellent soldiers, extremely tough and disciplined IMO.
Dude, I am not racist, however I do have a problem with people coming here who are unskilled and don't offer anything. I don't blame them for wanting to build a better life but what really irritates me is this something for nothing culture. It's interesting that you bring up the Gurkha's as for me the have made the ultimate sacrifice by serving the crown, therefore they've put in something that a lot of immigrants haven't. The same goes for soldiers of any other nationality, they've put something in. I have a great amount of respect for that.
We have too many people here on benefits or taking unskilled jobs. We have enough of our own unemployed who could and should take those jobs. If immigration carries on at it's current rate, unchecked then we'll have massive problems (when I say our own I mean people who are born here and have a British passport). Trump talks sense in that respect. It's not about being a racist.

I don't disagree with that. However I do believe that we have certain obligations to the Commonwealth and also to refugees (from persecution not economic)

But as you live/d in Preston, you must have had a reasonable amount of interaction with Muslims?

I have an apartment up there that I rent out. I also have family up there. There are plenty of Muslims and plenty of thoroughly decent ones too. There are some no go areas too where lot's of bearded men stand in groups giving you the evil eye if you stray into the wrong place.

I think the two things I'm most proud of are

1) Recovering from a nervous breakdown and establishing myself in a career in the process of recovering, whilst also kicking a drug habit (all in the same few years).

2) Having sex with a fit Japanese woman.

3) Being my mums son.

The second one makes no real sense. The first one, makes sense and the third one is really about dealing with her death.

You come across as calm and levelheaded in your posts. If you don't see it as rude to ask, what caused your breakdown and how do you think you managed to readjust so successfully?

Kudos to Hrolf The Ganger too for managing to hold it together. It takes guts to battle your demons and come out on top.

And I agree with having an obligation to the commonwealth, but there needs to be an element of commonsense about it. The problem is that many politicians see it as a vanity project, it's the same with foreign aid, it's just absolutely crazy.

Khan's position as London Mayor doesn't give him the right to interfere with the presidential race. Now that he is Mayor he is representing all of Londoners and should be reminded that his personal views should be kept separate.

Its 60% white of which roughly 12% are non-British white. That's still by far the largest single ethnic denomination in London (the next closest is 6.6 which is British Indians).

So whilst that's different than the London of the past, its still a fact that the single most dominant ethnicity is White British (around 48% of London).

Now that does mean that over half of London is not White British, but then you'd need to account for the percentage of those other groups that did not regard themselves as British. I grew up around a lot of British Indians and they all regard themselves as British with ties to India and Kenya.

Who gives a damn what skin colour they are, if they aren't English then they are apart of the majority foreigner reality of London.

It can't be sold to me that the scale of what has happened in London is ok.....London is a beacon of what happens with uncontrolled immigration.

You talk about the white British percentages, as if its significant when the truth is that its going down all the time.

Like I said before, thanks to the uneasy coupling of the pro immigration left and right pro low wages wing of the Tory party London has been lost as an English city.

And if we remain in the EU the scale of the cultural disintegration problem is only going to continue to expand.

It just depresses me.

Cheer yourself up then and go to Malaga. One third of the Brits there never talk to a Spaniard.

How can you possibly back that up? It sounds like you don't regard them as English more than the other way around.

With common sense.

Back in the 2011 census even the combined population of white British people only amounted to 44 percent of the population.

Take out the Scots and Welsh and N Irish and include all those who aren't white who call themselves exclusively English and it's extremely unlikely that its going to push that figure to over half of London.

So common sense really.....By the way, I care about the English culture not a person's skin colour, so I don't like your implication about me being choosy over who I regard as English.
