Except that this is England, a Christian country. All this antagonism is just a lot of nonsense and it also deflects from the more serious issues. It is? So we're theocratic rather than democratic, and the power of state is suborned to that of the Church of England?

Stop it. This story is about one group of idiots antagonizing another. Pretty much agree. I don't think, for the most part, that Christianity, Islam or Judaism have too much to offer society anymore in terms of progress - The functional religions tend towards spiritualism and self contained politics. They either seem to have adapted into groups that are pretty much ok with other people, and groups that are throw backs to oppression in the name of 'insert special deities name here'. Just have to look at the Catholic Church in Ireland to see how sick people are of demands of Religion on the politics of individual freedom.

They are the same people who were in Tommy Robinsons old mob. The big neanderthul look a like is his second in command No, but they pretty much have the same followers. The EDL split from the BNP, but Britain First is essentially inspired by Ulster Loyalists. Britain Firsts origins lie in Christian Fundamentalism rather than Far Right and postmodern interpretations of fascism. Intellectually, the groups are fairly easy to separate out, but in terms of membership they tend to be more fluid.
