Visited the place after a fourteen year sabbatical last week. Not much has changed re:the soulless atmosphere and peeps shopping like hypnotised morons, apart from being scruffier, but it appears with all the building work going on that is it going to be, according to the Council leader anyway, a new, hip and innovative 'city' which will attract the creatives and entrepreneurial professionals like bees to honey. Yes, indeed. Building new tall buildings, shops and offices is just what the place has been crying out for. We have been saying that since the 70's. Good luck with that Mr Council Leader, sir. Can we have our lovely Allders back first though? That was tough walking past its frontage a few days back. The very epicentre of the town and what is it now? Some kind of mass, cheap indoor market? S'alright though. Everything is cool. They are bringing in shipping containers next to East Croydon to house small businesses. Think I might move back. Where as Jock land is an utter Rembrandt. (the habitable bits anyway.)

Im all for the Box Park project at East Croydon, at least it deviates from yet another dull shopping center with a 5yr shelf life. The top floor of Centrale has been reclaimed by the wild, the last time I Checked there was a pack of wolves picking off unsuspecting children & fat people looking for the food court that used to exist up there, its like something out of Jumanji. I heard that shops from Whitgift Centre will have to relocate to Centrale so that Whitgift can be demolished.

I was born in November 1952. Can't remember what the 'Rue' was called before. I might well have gone in to the old named establishment. Don't tell me you went to the lunchtime "Striptease" sessions in Scamps/ The Office !

Too young for the striptease but remember them going on at Scamps. Think Bro. Solomon went in once but was very disappointed to find out it was girls.

much as i like Croydon, and i do. You always get the feeling the borough is being used as a dumping ground by policymakers....offloading undesireables from London zones one to three....and all courtesy of the taxpayer. Edited by PalazioVecchio (23 Aug 2015 9.31pm)
