Greek women are stunningly beautiful goddesses until some point in their 30's when they go to bed gorgeous and wake up as a wrinkled, stooped and haggard old bag.

Ark at me getting all political!

And hairy......oh so hairy.

A good article: [Link]

Does seem to me to be rather hypocritical on the behalf of European leaders that debt relief or restructuring is not seen as the least worst option.

Nice to see you back in General Talk tome! I for one have missed your posts.

Very flattered Johnny, thanks, I'm already taken by a German mind ...

That said, she's not of the same view as Frau Merkel. I've come across credible individuals - Martin Wolf at the FT - [Link] - as well as Stiglitz - noting that it's about power because it's about banks. It is the French and German banks which are getting most of the bailout money - their governments are protecting their banks. Banks making a risky investment, they take the blame for that as well as Greek laxity and systemic issues.

That's the same lot of banks involved in all of the miss - selling, and incontinent financial complexity. Are they really worth honouring to this extent?

Why not just pay them back a little less, so that the Greek economy can actually grow?

A one and a two...

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes or No vote today!

Think the polls suggest it will be close despite the government endorsing the No vote.

A yes victory will make the markets rally tomorrow but just defer the problems and a Greek exit from the Euro another few months I feel.

and a "no" victory may result in a deal (the deal that Merkel should have agreed weeks ago) by the following week...

It's too late for deals - every hand the Greeks have played they've over bid the contract, busted flush, time to stack the deck and start playing for sweeties on their own.

I was reading earlier that a lot of Greek professionals are off to Aussie and Canada, if the diaspora continues there will be no wealth creators left.

Realistically they were fcuked before they joined.

They cooked their books to portray a better picture of their economy and thought they could take the p1ss by spending beyond their means and the big boys would bail them out.

Sadly for them, the lenders are coming after them and not writing it off.

They have fcuk all to barter with and will have to endure the hardships of their folly.

This article puts an interesting perspective on what has become a genuine Greek tragedy.
