I'm sure they all correlate directly. They're 3 times more likely to die while on benefits to start with.

How big was the overall population sample and how does the figure compare to the average number of deaths which would have occurred anyway? I think you have little to no evidence to make the statement you have made above. I think it can therefore be disregarded.

Why do you think the figures were released today when the 'big' new story is immigration figures? The Government are guilty. I know of at least 2 examples of people who attempted suicide after being told by ATOS they were fit for 'some' work and then not being able to handle the work.

I didn't say anything about the government wanting to bury the figures. The British government is to all intents and purposes nowadays just a massive PR organisation. It is incredibly sensitive to anything which might 'play badly' in the media. They are guilty of trying to bury negative press. That doesn't make them killers though. I'm not defending ATOS. By all means disagree with the policy. I'm just pointing out that saying the government is "responsible" for 2,500 deaths is massively over-egging the criticism.

It'd be foolish to say that all the deaths were due to being forced back into work, but I'd wager that a fair few are.

If the policy hadn't been brought in by Labour (who are just as guilty in my opinion), and then carried on by the Tories, then I have no doubt that many, if not all of these people would be alive. To me that makes them (and Labour) responsible for the deaths. It is a ridiculous policy where you have one group of 'professionals' in ATOS (and whatever the new lot are) basically saying that GP's are incompetent and wrong about their diagnosis and recommended treatment of their patients. The certificate that is in use allows for a GP to state that the person is fit to do work of any kind. If they decide that their patient isn't then that should be the end of the matter.
