I would be disappointed if we sign him, the money we save is more important than having Wilf, as long as it is re invested

Let's be honest, You're wrong I think there's two considerations here: 1. Wilf will always be known as a Palace player, a local lad who has been with us (albeit not through choice) throughout one of our most sustained, successful spells ever. He's been an absolutely brilliant player that we've been lucky to keep ahold of for a number of reasons and there is evidence to suggest we were almost solely dependant on him for our PL survival for long periods. Therefore the thought of a Wilf-less Palace, even if not logical, is very daunting for some of us coupled with the very real suggestion we may not/will not be able to replace him. He has been our talisman and figurehead. 2. The logical business case that Wilf is not the player he once was, perhaps more prone to injury now, we have a much better squad and the finances involved are unjustified especially when they could be used elsewhere. Add to that he seems to be holding us to ransom and both actively and publicly looking elsewhere, emotion can turn against him. I happen to be in the first camp, and feel comfortable justifying it, however I also hold nothing against and understand those in the second and their position. I suppose we will see how this will all pan out but I do fear the longer it plays out the more detrimental it will become all round. Edited by Nicholas91 (06 Jul 2023 3.51pm)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Zaha makes too many poor choices and has been said in other posts, too often loses the ball these days. He also slows the play down when we fans are willing him to pass the ball quickly to players who are in promising positions. I'm sorry but the Zaha you seem to be promoting was a player at his peak and that is no longer the case. He's been a great player for us but he owes us nothing and neither do we owe him anything. Time to move on for both parties. Edited by doombear (06 Jul 2023 3.02pm) For me, I agree with Arsenal. I did say possibly not Arsenal when I referenced the top 6. I personally don't agree that Wilf gives the ball away too much, I think that's a cheap assessment of his game. Wilf, along with other flair players, will often try things that others can't. As a result is more likely to lose the ball, but if he gets it right could result in 1 or 3 points for the team. He only has to get it right once, doesn't matter too much how many times he gets it wrong because the team is built to allow for that. I appreciate people have different opinions, that's football and that's why we love it. For me, Wilf is the greatest player to pull on the red and blue and it would be a real shame to see him leave. Then again, I was sad when Speroni hung the gloves up and that probably happened 4 seasons too late! Edited by SurbsEagle (06 Jul 2023 3.53pm)

Forget its Wilf, He is a 30 year old, possibly injury prone past his best, free agent, similar to Willian, would any body be happy if we signed him on a 4 year contract, on say 130k a week, everyone would think we had lost the plot, and dont say Zaha is better than Willian, because he wasn't.

No you are not alone, although I wouldn’t necessarily say better off without him, but possibly better off with £200k per week to spend elsewhere. That is of course as long as it is actually used to improve the team and not to improve the owners holiday funds. If he goes and the money is not invested in the team then yes we will be a lot worse off.

In all honesty , i really do think the team as a whole lifted their game when he wasnt playing. They looked relieved and tried to prove a point and they did . Pure madness to give a player lets face it he will be 31 in 4 months a 4 year contract. Dont get me wrong he has been fantastic for us in the past but it just doesnt make good busnisses sense.

Unlike others I’m surprised that the top 6 don’t appear to be interested in Zaha and I may have to sadly re-appraise my ability to judge a player from positive to negative. While Zaha may now be on the wane I don’t believe he’ll fall off a cliff and his Premier League record can be scrutinised favourably against the likes of Sancho, Antony, Pulisic, Zyech, Richarlison, Nunes, Trossard and Havertz who have all featured heavily for top 6 clubs. He’s not a Mane or Salah in terms of his goals, but is versatile and can play anywhere across a front 3, or in a 451 or a 442. In fact there is a part of me that wished he had joined Man City a few years ago as I believe Pep could have improved him as a player as he has done with so many others.

I think you are remembering a Wilf of two years ago, and no fan has not enjoyed and appreciated his contribution, But, as Croydon-Trucker says we are a better team NOW when he dosent play
