Cafes, bars, restaurants close tonight. One last big piss up and spread of germs it is then. 80% of wages up to £2,500 paid to people. How long is that affordable? Serious times ahead.

Tesco have sent an email to someone to say they are going to give priority to vulnerable and elderly people between 9 and 10 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The supermarkets need to: 1. Lower the max amounts to 2 per customer. That’s a big change and sufficient. Most are at home so if you need more you go again another morning. 2. Keep some in the small rooms out the back to put on the shelves at a random time later in the day and to offer to emergency services people in uniform. The government need to get into their thought processes as well. This morning I was shopping for a family in isolation for 3 months and picked up some extra rice and took it to customer services and left it on the desk for it to be put on the shelves later. I was tempted to get other stuff and place it random shelves around the store. Oh and Cass Pennant was in Warlingham Sainsbury’s this morning at the start of the main middle aisle in a large winter coat and glasses on the phone so either he thinks we’re more civilised in Warlingham or middle aged casuals are about to sort out the selfish husband and wife with 2 trolleys. You can’t leave your trolley unguarded these days, although Warlingham is probably safe from pinching from trolleys for now. I can see that happening in places. Edited by Rudi Hedman (20 Mar 2020 11.55am) I also happen to shop in Sainsburys Warlingham, it was carnage yesterday morning, queued for over an hour at the checkout. It did appear most were elderly and didn't appear to be stockpiling, just loads of them. I saw a sad clip on the internet of a nurse that had just finished her shift, in the shop looking at empty shelves crying as she had nothing to eat and exhausted after a demanding day. Something needs to be done to ensure food gets to the right people. They should have some meat, veg, milk etc put aside for key emergency workers.

Compare to Italy. Much worse crisis but the shelves are full and people orderly. We are supposed to be the stoic dunkirk spirit types and them the emotional excitable types. Stereotypes eh?

I don’t know what Italy are doing on shopping and industry controls but they’ve had caps on bread prices since WWII. We’ve just let supermarkets clean up as they sell everything in every range at full price. Notice the special offers don’t matter now.

A kind of serious question. Is it not in the Government's interest to let older/sick people get infected and die ? That would reduce a lot of the pension pot deficit, and get sick people out of the NHS system. A few workers dying would free up spaces for the unemployed. The Government have done a lot of posturing and media work, but very little in the way of advice and measures to restrict the virus. I've just made a ventilator out of a plastic demi-john, some garden hose and an old hoover motor. Any takers ?
Edited by Forest Hillbilly (20 Mar 2020 10.37am) You are a total knob suggesting that the government would like the old to die for financial reasons.

Perhaps she doesn't have any more right to find food but she has far less ability to do so. My wife is a nurse and she works 12 hour shifts leaving home at 6:00am and returning at 8:00pm so I don't know when she is supposed to go shopping. I suppose that she could always join the "I'm all right Jack so f*** you" brigade but most nurses don't think that way The shops arnt women only !

Wow. I would happily give up some food for a nurse right now. We are only suffering from food shortages due to selfish pr*cks panicking and hoarding. So if you have spare food you have been doing exactly what you say is wrong I guess.
