If I encounter misinformation or prejudice I will certainly call it out. I don’t recall suggesting anyone lacks intelligence. Gullibility certainly, but that’s different. If people want to defend their positions that’s fine. If they don’t that’s fine too. My purpose is to expose the hypocrisy and not allow obviously frail arguments to stand unchallenged. This is an extremely odd corner of the world. Something that most who populate it will have absolutely no acceptance of. The idea that only Alf Garnett types would defend us is as risible as it is insulting to those who fought and died in two world wars. They came from as diverse a background as society itself. Including my own father, who was as far away from Alf Garnett in his views as it’s possible to get. Alf Garnett was a piece of propaganda written by and starring leftists. Now here we are in 2024 with Britain suffering all the ailments that the Right predicted and still Leftists are in denial about the cesspit this country has become.

If it was as straightforward as just moving then estates would be pretty empty. Family and/or work and financial commitments have an impact. It's also not easy for many to just up sticks and move, at least until they reach retirement age. It all depends on priorities and determination. If it’s so important then it can be done and if you are determined enough will be done. If family connections over-ride other considerations then you have made your choice so stop moaning and get on with it. You aren’t going to change anything. Other jobs are always available. Remote working is now very popular and practical for many. 25 years ago I lived in Norfolk but had my office in Hampstead. I spent 2 days a week, on average, in the office, spending one night in London. The rest of the week I either worked from home or traveled the UK or Europe, using Stansted as my gateway. As many posting here are either retired, or not working through choice, there’s nothing work related impacting them, so just do it.

Can a comedy be propaganda? Satire written by someone with a left wing outlook, certainly. Johnny Speight was a talented scriptwriter who worked on many shows which had no political connection at all. They were just funny. He wrote Alf Garnett’s character as a parody of a certain type to emphasise the attitudes and find the humour in them. That those types can be found writing in these pages and don’t find themselves funny is, of itself, quite amusing.

It was a forerunner of the deluge of Leftist material that we see in across the media. Deliberate or otherwise, it is the proliferation of certain ideas and mindset which has conditioned several generations to believe in a particular reality. You are clearly one of those affected. It has allowed people to become blind to certain realities due to the strength of their ideals, and condemn those that don't share it to the role of villain. Personally, I blame Hitler most of all. His actions paved the way for Leftists and liberals to take the moral high ground and paint history how they pleased since WW2. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (25 Feb 2024 9.42am)

Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (25 Feb 2024 9.42am) Only in the minds of people like you. I am as opposed to hard left ideas as I am to hard right ideas. I believe most of my fellow citizens are. There is no deluge of leftist material. There is just a slow, steady acceptance of improvements to the position of previously disadvantaged groups and the establishment of a fairer society. There’s nothing especially leftist involved. It’s just the way a decent society operates in a democracy. How we manage our economy is a different issue entirely. I am opposed as anyone else to constantly expanding debt and loath politicians using it to protect themselves. However we have faced a long period of unforeseen events which would have challenged any government. Getting ourselves out of the resulting rut is not going to be easy and is likely to deliver yo yo governance for decades. The situation in the Middle East is beyond our control and one where even our influence is minimal. My own view is that until the huge barrier that Netanyahu represents is dealt with it there is no prospect of a resolution. There are many good people in Israel who I hope find a way to do that.

You miss the point. We gave the Zionists Israel, and now they want to take Gaza. The West Bank will be next. 'Disadvantaged groups' are human beings, and they never just want equality. No one does. You give someone a hand up, and before you know it, they want what you have got, and then they want more. Your deluded middle ground, liberal fantasy world might not allow you to see the reality of human nature, but we will have to live with that reality nonetheless.

I hate woke and the damage it does. However much worse than that is the hypocrisy of woke companies....which is basically all of them in our regulated and legal woke business environment. [Tweet Link]

The AfD, formed in 2013, is polling at 20% plus in Germany. And rather than think about why their popularity is on the rise, and do something to reverse the trend, they choose to use the big stick. The AfD is anti EU and anti Immigration. I seem to recall another country where the views of a large section of the population were ignored and they were discounted as racists. I believe that country voted to leave the EU
