Amen to that. History will not be kind to those arseholes. And people like me, who voted for them, have to take our share of the blame. History will tell you that your choices were very limited. Basically a Tory and Labour uniparty these days. A couple of subtle policy differences - all with exactly the same outcomes for the country and the people. It's more like policy packaging and labelling than any actual practical or real policy; soundbites as it were.

Comments in red. Alf Garnett didn't have to put up with the sh1t or shut up. Quite clearly he was allowed to express his views. He was racist for racism's sake. Compared to now - he had nothing to worry about. Genuine poverty, crime and anti social behaviour were no where near what they are now. Society could largely police itself.

Comments in red. You have a very binary view of everything, Wisbech. Things are either 'right' or 'wrong'. In that sense, you are very much like the UK media in your portrayal of your views, and that woud seem to be divisive. That is why people don't engage, because there is no lateral movement with your posts, wiggle-room or compromise (or whatever you want to call it). Just trying to help

Comments in red. What is creepy, but unsurprising, is your support and celebration of the brainwashing of children, sexual deviants and the casual termination of nascent lives.

If your first statement is true then surely that means society has improved? No-one should be racist for racism’s sake. I don’t know how old you are but at nearly 80 I can assure you that there was never a time that society could largely police itself. There have always been issues and complaints about “the state of the place”. I was part of Alf Garnett’s generation and his type was familiar enough back then, when they were regarded just as they are now by all but themselves. Odd, but noisy. Exactly the same applies today.

One Alf Garnett...well the character that is, was worth a million of a certain other individual we all can pinpoint. Alf Garnett would have fought in the trenches with you. Whereas they would have p1ssed themselves. The fact that this society has ended up rewarding his type and demonises the other is a snapshot of our decline.

Mine is that, in many cases, I am stating facts. You are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. Whether people wish to engage, or not, is entirely their business. It doesn’t concern me either way.

Because "white-flight" to Cornwall means he can escape the multi-cultural catastrophe of places like Thornton Heath/ghetto This old nonsense again. People are free to choose where they live, or retire to. Which is why I am here, having spent my working life in places as diverse as Plymouth, Tewkesbury, Coventry, High Wycombe, Dereham, Wisbech and Cebu in the Philippines. I left the London area as a young man to follow my career and soon realised that the hectic nature of life there did not suit me. It had, and has, nothing whatsoever to do with multi-culturalism. There is nothing to stop anyone moving from anywhere they feel uncomfortable if that is their priority.

The idea that only Alf Garnett types would defend us is as risible as it is insulting to those who fought and died in two world wars. They came from as diverse a background as society itself. Including my own father, who was as far away from Alf Garnett in his views as it’s possible to get.
