And if you don't invest in your squad, where do you end up? Sunderland,Wigan Division 1 , seriously overpaid mercenaries refusing to leave and bleeding us dry and the distinct possibility of administration. Is that what you really want?

And how many of those "seriously overpaid mercenaries" were signed in a January transfer window? Look at the links I posted in an earlier post to see what a tiny proportion of January window signings end up as a success.

A bit of good news Tate Britain think they can get their new 40k Head of Coffee signing over the line today.

We’ll be lucky to get a head of lettuce.

If one of those is Jordon Ibe and the other a youth development or Lewis signing, the board can just resign.

They should at least get a left footed winger in. Bowen was a good solution. I gave an entire list of left footed players who can be brought in if that doesn't happen. Same characteristics. Now we're jumping from Bowen-Townsend type of player cutting through the center on the left foot to right footed liniar player like Jordon Ibe and who has done nothing for 4 years.

Indeed but he didn't want to join Palace. Unfortunately transfer dealings are not as easy as you seem to think.

We got Ayew, Cahill, and McCarthy for around 7m last summer.

The summer before we got Kouyate, Guaita, and Meyer for 12m.

Unless, of course, you mean spending big. Thank god we’ve avoided that after bringing in Benteke and Sahko. The costs of those two have, in essence, hamstrung the club.

We are clearly looking at younger players give the ones for the future who have arrived, and the one whose medical is problematic. That is the way forward for a club like ours, and given some of the injury problems we have had it seems reasonable to be concerned over a failed medical.

I think you're correct in what you're saying here. It would seem the plan has been,

- Get the senior first team players in order
- Spend little money as possible on squad players
- Invest in youth

I would say it's a pretty decent plan to be honest. Just be a shame if we don't pull it off by signing any young players!

We got one, and a second who I don’t know anything about. A third, seems to have some kind of medical issue if one believes the reports.

I've not looked at the transfer reports for a couple of days, just thought I'd have a quick look in the hope we had secured a couple of signings, ie. Boden and fergusen. Typically, both seems to gave fallen through and we are now yet again scraping the barrel to see what's left, last minute.com

I would argue that we have signed a non-league player in the hopes he becomes Ian Wright. More likely, he becomes Kwesi Appiah, Quade Taylor etc. and will have no sell on value and no first team appearances in 4 years time.
Not 100% sold on Scott Banks yet, being asked to make a huge step up in quality so yet to be seen where that goes.
The likes of Eze, Bowen, Ferguson are more established and more likely to be able to make the step up to Premier League in a shorter timeframe.

Don't worry Wardy and Ayew will run around a lot. Who needs cover anyway.
