Most people aren't stupid but they are essentially gullible and have a natural inclination to believe narratives and want to fit in. Everyone, including me, fall for this...probably countless times in our lives...because we probably don't have the time to objectively check on what's being said or we don't have experience in the topic in question. As a former teacher I would read narratives in the mainstream media about the teaching profession (and I'm hardly an apologist for the mess the left have made of teaching) and I'd shake my head at the views put forward. But people just accept and believe what's being said because it's easy and they know no different and have no time or inclination to find out. If you think of your own profession and how it's written about in the media you probably note the same impression. Well, naturally this is going to extend out to most things....whatever the establishment want you to believe is essentially what most people will end up believing......unless it results in obvious personal cost to them. The manipulation of human nature to agree with many of our elite's decisions explains much of why we are essentially fecked. [Tweet Link]

Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Feb 2024 9.36am) My career was in Banking I remember when Barings collapsed and thousands lost their jobs. The media reported this was glee I worked with some of these people, they were decent and hard working and hadn't even heard of Nick Leeson. The media love to portrait Financial Service workers as rich, greedy and corrupt in fact most of us were earning a standard wage and were honest decent people. The crooks were nearly all at the top and even then they were a tiny minority.

Steeleye can amplify as he lives and breathes this nonsense.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

'It just went plop'. The trident missile failure, with the tory defence secretary on board, conjures up perfectly the image of tory Britain where nothing actually works. The last one in 2016, veered off in the opposite direction. Two out of four aircraft carriers with propellor issues. MOD says 'anomaly' would not happen in an actual war. How reassuring that is, at this rate we would probably blow up ourselves. Agree with Stirling on believability.

Yup blame the government. I expect the Trident missile was armed and fired by Rishi Sunak himself, nothing to do with the American manufacturers or the Navy.

No class UK. Should have buried the Assange affair years ago, now look at it. Obama was prepared to look the other way. On this and other present issues the UK should not be afraid to tell the USA cordially 'non'.

Even those, like me, who worked in sales and marketing. Something the OP finds difficult to accept, thus proving his own contention of gullibility. It also applies to our politicians and those who work in the media. The only thing that’s different are their roles and what is necessary to fulfil them. There is no elite group plotting behind the curtains and pulling the strings. That’s just the reasoning of a gullible group unable to accept reality. It’s just the way our society works. There are indeed crooks willing to exploit weaknesses. There are many others trying to stop them.

Let's ask the families of the people who were killed, tortured and imprisoned as a result of Assange's arrogance. My issue is the waste of taxpayer's money over the years.
