I've said it many times but someone really needs to contact Peter Gabriel and get him to write a song. He played a small part as one of many people who are responsible for where SA is now. If you're white, especially if you're working class, then the left and social liberals just don't care about you. Whether you are a Boer or English you are just unspoken expendable cannon fodder for their politics. [Tweet Link]

Meanwhile, back on topic, have I read somewhere that 50 Tory MPs are standing down at the next election (including Kwasi Kwarteng)? Talk about only backing a winning horse! The definition of rats fleeing the ship...

South Africa was always about colonial guilt. If it was really about human rights, the protestors would have been raging outside the Liberian embassy or those others ranked even worse by Amnesty and the UN etc.

We operated for centuries without any and this nonsense certainly wasn't part of my upbringing or mental make up.

Make it so.

'Rishi's recession'. Out of the 5 Sunak pledges only reducing inflation remains, and most people think it would come down faster without him. The tories and labour, wealthy bankers' parties Mk1 and Mk 2, pursue the same failed economic model.

Recession ? the huge elephant in the room that the Government tagged as a Cost of Living Crisis. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (16 Feb 2024 7.09am)

Edited by Forest Hillbilly (16 Feb 2024 7.09am) Yep, in terms of GDP per person we have been in recession for two years. Seven quarters without per person growth, which is the longest stretch on record. And still we will only be able to chose between two parties promising more of the same. I agree there is nothing to choose between the two main parties now. Labour will win and spend the next term moaning about the economic situation they inherited just as Conservatives did 14 years ago. Reeves is constantly back pedalling and trotting out the Lablour is going to be fiscally responsible line. I suspect when the election is close there will be some across the board tax cuts, if inflation continues down there will be room for some interest rate cuts. All quite depressing really. Apart from the US most major economies are in the same state but even if we are doing better than Germany it's no reason for celebration, just means Germans will buy less UK goods.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
