Agreed this is about Russian politicians not the Russian people. My friend and yoga teacher is Russian her father was a general in the Red Army, she is a lovely lady. I will be seeing her for a lesson on Wednesday and unless she mentions it I wont as I don't think it fair on her. Edited by Badger11 (26 Feb 2022 1.49pm)

I don’t think there are many blaming the Russian people. To paraphrase the Sting song, I’m sure, “the Russians love their children too”. As I posted earlier, it is probably the Russian people themselves that have the best chance of stopping Putin, if supported by Oligarchs and a few disenchanted Generals.

LOL. I know I should not bite, that nothing is achieved and I am feeding what is perhaps the greatest Troll on the WWW but seriously? The entire point is that the 'International Community' are doing f*** all. Sanctions? Old f***ing hat. Calling Putin all kinds of nasty names? The West have two choices. Either stick its jets into the air and take on the Russian airforce along with hitting all kinds of strategic targets and give the Ukrainians at least a chance to mount a serious counter-offensive. Or tell the Ukrainians to sit down, offer full and unconditional neutrality by way of bringing about an end to the fighting and hope that the Russians don't decide to take all the land east of the Dnieper. But they won't. Because Germany wants the gas, Italy wants the Gucci concessions, Belgium wants to sell the diamonds and so on and on. And you want to know something about the UK? We want to keep the BILLIONS that we allow Russians to launder through our banking systems. The Spice has to keep flowing. And yes, more fool me for even engaging with you but sometimes low-hanging fruit has a decadent sweetness that is just too tempting, despite the fact that it will bring on a case of the runs at the most inopportune of times. Then we disagree. We have several choices and neither of the two you mention are wise. I am afraid it's rather typical of the quality of the solutions you propose on many subjects. They appeal to a certain type of mentality but would end up doing much more harm, than good. Take the first and with a, quite possibly deranged, Putin finger on the nuclear button you risk WW3 and the chance of our mutual destruction. That cannot be done. It's irrational to think otherwise. Ukraine meekly surrendering would encourage Putin to push even harder. He needs to feel the pain of upsetting his own people, his military and, in time, the effect of economic and social sanctions. Putin will get what he wants in Ukraine. In the short term. He will then face a resisting, occupied population there, world isolation and increased unrest at home. This will be a new Cold War aimed not at the Russian people, but at Putin alone. No dictator, however powerful, can rule a huge country forever on that basis. This seems to be the internationally agreed strategy, and it seems the most likely to be effective to me.

UK RAISES ALERT LEVEL The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent Russian threats and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let’s Get the b******s.” The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.” Belgians on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. Australia meanwhile, has raised its security level from “No worries” to “She’ll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we’ll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far, no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level. This seems to be the internationally agreed strategy, and it seems the most likely to be effective to me. I think this is your perspective, however I just don't think that's going to happen. I support the Ukrainian resistance and Putin has committed a great if predictable wrong, however I'm going to be calculating rather than emotional and just say what I see happening. Putin isn't stupid, invading and occupying parts of Ukraine that don't have a sizable Russian population would be foolish....that's the kind of thing the west did in the middle east. Instead as has been said previously it's more likely that Putin doesn't over extend and that he clears out resistance within borders that he creates. We will support and should support what is defendable, which won't be East Ukraine....there we have to plead for reason not show trials. Over the next two weeks he takes East Ukraine and installs a Russian friendly puppet, the west continues reinforcing Nato borders and continues with its combination of hurt hippy language and seemingly aggressive statements that have no actual committal meat to them....essentially we have Cold War 2. The west uses sanctions but once fighting stops looks to normalise relations due to gas and food prices hurting us just as much as Russia....well more in fact as they have significant reserves and where there is demand for their resources there is supply. Essentially Putin saw the weakness while the west deluded itself. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Feb 2022 3.08pm)

The difference they contribute to is truly...errr...let's just say, inspiring. In seriousness, it's not Moore we should be angry with, but rather those who put him there.

Ukraine for the most part is norfolk levels of flat, its why Russia wants to be a buffer between themselves & the EU as its far too big a land mass & far too easy for invading armies to roll across borders, the fact the russians dont have tanks sat in freedom square yet given they invaded from the belarussian border a 3 hour drive away did raise an eyebrow. What im reading (not just on the above link) is Russian logistics have broken down a fair bit, food, ammunition & fuel is becoming scarce & its causing russian troops to loot shops to eat, this is a clear indicator the lightning strike on kyiv isnt going as planned. You should all follow cossack gundi on instagran, he is a brit who has been serving as a marine for ukraine for the last 4 years. Edited by Ouzo Dan (26 Feb 2022 3.33pm)

Even if we could pull down the foundations, which we can't, it would be morally wrong anyway. We are not Putin and shouldn't seek to be. Anyway Putin is about as clear as evidence as you need that you require a competing elites class. At this time that doesn't exist in the west, they all currently rather blindly buy into the benefits of globalism. There is no need for pulling down as social liberalism's own ideas lead to inevitable fragmentation and conflict anyway. Demographical change and time are the only requirements. Look at the UK, the different regions are already in early gestation. Britain's path is set, the damage wasn't politically reversible after the seventies. We are just witnessing the inevitable consequnces of power structures slowly altering. I think the best we can do is peacefully focus upon our families, communities and not living in cities. Let's hope that the world hasn't managed to nuke itself and that the Britain of our descendants is awake to hard nosed realities rather rather than the ideological nonsense of our age.
