A wonderful contribution, perhaps the fairies not the wives thought of England whilst propagating the species. Well, let's put it like this....the public schools of the past were of the British, not the 'world' and far more importantly for us. An empire was built and a country made great on the playing fields by men on a mission.....regardless of where they liked to stick it. Not self indulgent, self obsessed and self loathing passive aggressive nancies sometimes fifth columnists embarking on a weird mix of pseudo champagne egalitarian nonsense born of a life with no real challenge.

When will the Tory party admit that the railway privatisation was a complete downgrade for customers. The attitude towards privatisation should be utilitarian, not ideological. [Tweet Link]

I use the trains a lot and its sure very frustrating with all the delays and cancellations - a huge contrast to Japan and most parts of continental Europe for sure. My personal view is that the issue is not so much with the train companies but with Network Rail who are charged with managing an incredibly old infrastructure - tracks, cables, bridges, tunnels etc - and essentially an arm of government. So, if one set of overhead cables goes down it brings the whole system to a complete halt; likewise, the number of tracks on the long distance routes is very limited with similar issues if there is a problem with one track. So, in my view, this comes back to many decades of underinvestment in the rail infrastructure and its now hugely expensive to upgrade, build new or even maintain. Somehow, the French, Germans, Dutch and Spanish have found a way to do it - its all about political choices I sense.

A Parliament which began with promises of “levelling up” ends with money promised to the North being redirected back to London. Britain needs major change. I think it was MacMillan go said tories should 'go north' to win an election, here they are doing the opposite. It's farewell to Network North the money will probably disappear into the tory lining our own pockets levelling up sector. That's one pothole that will never be repaired.

The state of our Policing institution today - essentially because the role of the Police is fulfil the wishes of their paymasters rather than any loftier principles that might have been their original purpose.

What I've always believed. I don't demonise self interest in all instances as there are common sense elements to that when rational and moderate. However, it isn't a principle.

This is a correct and frightening summary of policing now . Nothing is being actually done to change this direction of travel.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Johnson, for example, spent his journalist career enjoying free speech, but his party overturned none of the creeping censorship laws since Blair and indeed, it's the Tory party that is introducing yet more free speech restrictions.

War criminal Blair now influencing policies of Labour and Conservative which reinforces there is very little difference between them with current leaderships. What a state we have allowed the country to become

I see the New Year's Eve comedy awards (honours) are out. Politicians - Services to their wallet and the establishment. Civil Servants - Doing their job and not very well. Celebs / Sports people - If they are any good they win a title e.g. gold medal, if they don't have that then why are they getting an award. The Proles - In order for the elite to gorge themselves on honours they have to throw a bone to the plebs every now and then. But for good sake don't give them a knighthood far to good for the peasants, the lowest of the awards is good enough for the likes of them. This guy has saved 29 lives and gets a MBE, what a joke. I would suggest he is far more deserving that the people higher up the food chain. Edited by Badger11 (30 Dec 2023 9.22am)
