Sure, I wasn't being sarcastic by the way I really didn't know that. Just occasionally on here someone drops a nugget that makes me think. My flat is worth about 0.5m, come the day when my state pension is not enough I will use the equity to subsidise my income.
Edited by Badger11 (13 Dec 2023 2.24pm) Which is pretty much what I did. Although it was my business and my house I sold. I had retired and drawn my pensions but continued the business until the cancer diagnosis. Moving to Cornwall was intended to let me enjoy the rest of my life in peace and beauty. Having enough to invest in property maintained both an income and an interest. I will be at one of the units over the weekend to fix a problem. I hope you also find the way to live happily and comfortably.

I will be a pensioner one day, but my house won’t be worth 25 times what I paid for it when I’m eventually allowed to retire. I also tend not to chose a position on topics based on my own personal greed. So you are basically jealous, like most socialists. With the demand for housing increasing by the year, I'm sure houses will be worth a lot more than they are now in the coming years. Price drops are always a blip. We could solve the problem of homelessness for far less than the cost of this absurd Rwandan gimmick. Starmer turned to homelessness and evictions in PMQs today and you could feel the opposition benches with him, shameing the tories. Better as many think he does not really 'get it'. Housing will be an important issue in the election, we need a huge program of affordable homes to reverse the disaster that Thatcher and tory greed has created.

Kudos to you. Our tax system is grossly unfair, as it is designed to be of course. Nevertheless, there are going to be a lot of old duffers who will vote Labour without realising what's going to happen to their incomes.....Because Labour are a party of liars. Though to be fair so are the Tories. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Dec 2023 6.15pm)

Housing is a very large crises and one that was entirely and deliberately created by government of both colours for economic reasons. Starmer isn't going to solve it mate....He isn't going to solve feck all....Immigration will continue to vastly outstrip the creation of new housing and if you think otherwise you're kidding yourself Steely. As for homelessness that also can't be 'solved'. It's a problem that neo/social liberalism has made far worse because its core root is both economic and mental illness.....with a constant minority aspect of abuse, which has always been a factor. However, reducing homelessness would certainly be helped with actual government that linked population size to affordable housing provision. But that isn't possible under neoliberalism.....which is all about pleasing the wealth class.....and it's funny that so many of its supporters pretend to be left wing.

Seven billion of taxpayer money has been wasted on diversity & inclusion schemes....which is rightly described as a scam here. For 13 years the Tories supported and paid for this. An incoming Labour party will celebrate it and continue it. Both these parties are dross and unfit for purpose. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Dec 2023 7.15pm)
