My local MP who turned up to the hospital to protest once is now health secretary. A vegan is in charge of food and rural affairs. Emily Thornbury was tipped for a post. Surprised she wasn't the new shadow minister for construction after seeing a white van man. Ikea cabinet.
Maybe they'll stop the sale of Halal Meat ? Although I'm willing to bet that they wont for fear of 'Offending the Muslim Community" Surely he will call for halal to be made compulsory in the interests of community 'cohesion'.

In itself not necessarily an issue but if you are a dairy / beef / poultry farmer you'll be paying close attention to what she does. There is an obvious conflict between someone who is vegan and the majority of farmers.

Unfortunate timing that the papers had pictures of the funeral of a 16 year old kid, kidnapped and murdered in cold blood (very possibly after torture) by the same IRA members McDonnell believes should be 'celebrated'. Plus Argentina mentioning that Corbyn's election is a step forward in them gaining the Falklands. Then the cherry on the cake - Abbott's in the shadow cabinet

Indeed but that doesn't take away the fact that there is a significant conflict of interest there. If she can set aside her personal beliefs then fair play. I am not sure that the general public give a toss about animal husbandry though. Better quality of life = more expensive produce.

In terms of the farmers, from what I have read (I'm a vegan so take a fairly keen interest in the subject) I highly doubt that they would be concerned if the ethics of animal farming are improved - they are far more concerned about being paid better and being provided with greater job security. Actually in America at the moment in the onrunning dispute between farmers and chicken companies, a common concern raised by the farmers is being forced in to treating animals so unimaginably horribly.

The majority of Farmers would definitely prefer to treat animals better. I grew up working on a farm (late 70s) and there was always a tinge of sadness when the cows went off to the abattoir. Some of the "super farms" however, maybe not so much.

I have had dealings with her and she couldn't organise a p1ss up in a brewery.... wasn't interested in our concerns and failed to make any impact in getting stuff done. The local Tory councillor put her to shame.

The slurs, half truths and lies continue unabated. Link doesn't work for me. But anyway, in general it is just like the treatment of Farage - something you gleefully participated in.
