This is a virus that preys on the old and/or those with weak immune systems. I think we need a national programme to protect them and closing everything down can be justified until that is put in place. However, outside of that my position has altered.....There is zero reason for well and healthy people to not be working if they aren't in touch with the at risk demographic.

Caterers and eating places don’t get through one jar a day anyway. More like loads of the stuff. I hope that clears your confusion. Incidentally I wonder what’s happening to the perishing catering food. To the homeless or in the bin? Edited by Rudi Hedman (19 Mar 2020 2.07pm)

Completely agree and they’re probably going to have to lead the way worldwide by putting this into practice. The alternative is to completely fvck ourselves over financially, which will consequently burden everyone with debt, a longer recovery, poorer job and life prospects and prosperity, longer term health service issues and poor national health, poorer living standards etc etc etc. They can be bold and do it using the experts knowledge it appears only we are doing among richer Western Europe. They just have to do it at the right time. We might struggle to get trade from outside but it can be better than this and from a national interest, it would be good to get a head start for a change.

Yep, lets hope that this thinking is also coursing through Downing Street.

Edited by Rudi Hedman (19 Mar 2020 2.07pm) good point on the high turn over rate and low shelf life of mayo, only takes a bit more demand to deplete stocks exponentially - like to see Mayo sales on some sort of graph, hopefully we've peaked but we may still be in the delay phase where Mayonnaise is concerned - did manage to get a couple of jars today, so there you go I'm now part of the problem

There could be a lot of people wandering around, having bought mayo but not yet displaying any signs. I think these are what they are calling super spreaders.
