Even if the facts have an unfortunate 'liberal bias'. The rejection of 'alt-facts and alt-truth'. As long as the null hypothesis is genuinely disproved and not just replaced with another. I'm not a big believer in facts. Not the sort that can't be proven with maths anyway.

I tend towards something that can be demonstrated with reasoned argument that's been peer reviewed or otherwise contested, over supposition, or subjective opinion and backed up by evidence, such as photographic record etc. Where as the US president, genuinely seems to only be interested in his opinion and beliefs, irrespective of reality, and seems to be quoting news from disreputatable sources, and disproven stories as fact.

This. "Department of Homeland Security" has a wonderfully totalitarian resonance, doesn't it?
Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune) |

The position of the null hypothesis is typically the rejection of other explanation's being more plausible. The point of experimental models is to isolate significant variables and identify qualities that contribute in a highly significant and thus probable manner, to establish as 'most probable' explanation. Typically, by establishing a pattern of statistical relevance of .95 or higher, or a correlation factor of above 7 (on say the Pearson correlation co-efficient). That is of course when you cannot so a direct causal relationship (such as seen in laboratory models in Chemistry or Physics).

Tbf, starting wars is second nature to the US so no change there. dems are dumb but they aren't smart enough to be diabolical. Hmmm............. Edited by .TUX. (15 Feb 2017 6.30am)
