Did you not hear the English fans celebrating when Croatia scored to put Scotland out? Anyway gutted for England I do find it bizarre that the home nations all like to see each other lose but would call it offensive.

20/20 hindsight is wonderful and enables me to say that despite being English, I feel somewhat worse when Palace lose a game or even draw a game they should have won than I felt when England lost in last night's penalty shootout. When Sako missed that final penalty, I simply switched off the TV, went to bed and fell asleep. Edited by doombear (12 Jul 2021 9.55am)

Just so I'm clear, does last night mean Palace are definitely going to win the FA Cup now?

I live in the United Kingdom and I wish all the home nations success yet the Scottish and appears the Welsh delight in our defeat. Well f*** you. I’m gutted England didn’t win. When you won the World Cup in 66 we humped you at Wembley so we could claim we were world champs. After our draw the other week I was looking forward to demanding a rematch so we could hump you as European champs.

I think you'll find that England are the Millwall of international football. When you look at their fans, is it any wonder?
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

You have hit the nail on the head there. I was thinking exactly the same thing. What is wrong with some people?

The last two tournaments I’ve got more into England as the players are more likeable. Around 2010-16 I didn’t even really watch. My lack of emotion in the build up to yesterday and the lack of feeling afterwards leads me to think that sadly I don’t really care much for the national team. I want to, but can’t force it if it’s not there. Had there been a Palace player In the squad that would help. Compare it to the FA Cup final in 2016, I remember the pride in wearing my Palace shirt that day, the sleepless night before and the sheer misery and heart break for days after. Didn’t speak for hours after the game. A couple of my mates love supporting England and travelled up to London for it yesterday and I guess I was a bit envious. Cricket, however, I absolutely love the England Test team as much as I love Palace. Strange really. I think the decades of underachievement combined with the disconnect between the prima donnas and fans has had this effect for many. The atmosphere across the country during both the 18 World Cup and the Euros has been fantastic.

Given the choice, I’d have an FA Cup for Palace. I’d go further. Purely hypothetical, I know, but intrigued by your response and value judgments. Its a tough one but I'd probably just go with Palace lifting the old cup. BUT....If we were talking about the WORLD cup, I'm sorry but nothing on the planet can match watching your country win the biggest and hardest to win tournament of them all.

Palace are in my blood though. I've never been to a live international and won't be any time soon. Unless I bring my son to the Aviva, not out of my choice.
