The club will always play its cards close to its chest. Just because players are out of contract does not mean offers have not been made however they have not been accepted by the player. This may be because they are waiting to see who new manager was and/or what other offers come in. To my knowledge only 1 player off the list has found another club and 1 is actively talking to another club. My guess is all the released players will be given opportunity to impress PV and earn a contract. COVID has meant that offers from other clubs are more difficult to get so I think some of under 23 players will re-sign plus Ward/Clyne, Andros All on reduced terms and possibly Cahill (in a player /trainee coach role)

I don't think insurance will be a problem as trialists are acommon part of football

The club might be slowing matters down so that when Palace offer reduced terms it will probably tempt players to sign.

The squad is due to have a week’s training programme at St George’s park imminently.
If the out of contract players are not on this programme, where the serious pre-season work occurs,, it would seem likely they won’t be re-signing.
Since 3 or our often used back four - Ward, PVA and Cahill - are in that group, it’s clear that this needs to be addressed, either through some of them re-signing or the acquisition of replacements.
It’s rumoured that PVA won’t be renewing anyway, but other out of contract defenders include Dann and Clyne.
At the moment we have no senior right back and one rookie left back.
We have one senior central defender, the injury prone Tomkins, if you consider Kouyate as more of a midfield player and Kelly as a utility defender or stand in.
I thought as a minimum that Ward and Cahill would be staying and perhaps that will still happen ; but it does seem strange that it hasn’t happened yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if players we wanted to keep got fed up with waiting and are not going to renew now.

My paper this morning says, in addition to confirming Olise signing, that we are talking to Joel Ward about renewing his contract.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This is very sensible.
I do feel however the club need to acquire another right-back in time for the start of the season.
Ferguson will not be fit and in my humble opinion, Clyne should not be offered a contract.

Ward is past it far too slow, Kelly would be better, surely in the championship there is someone better, Mitchell is two footed he could play RB, then Schlupp or Hannam left

A bit surprised that none of the out-of-contract players were offered to stay. Would prefer Clyne to Ward though and Cahill has more left in his tank....

I suspect being able to really build a squad was a selling point. A lot of high salaries off the books, even if the Transfer Budget isn't huge.

No one was a fan of FDR, but he was only able to bring in Jairo. Could have been a different story if he'd brought in 8 players that could play to his tactics.

PV seems to be just the type we need, defense first, but able to integrate youth and attacking assets as they become available to him. (And he won't get fired if we are 'only' in 11th on the Table)

It was reported at the time (leaked by Parish probably) that de Boer showed no interest in signing players
