Hell is other people’s team selection.

Or just change the manager to one who actually plays football? and maybe tries to win a game in the first half, rather than keep it 0-0 and then try to nick a goal. Or one who plays youngsters, attacking players, and players in their right positions?

Clearly economics is the major factor in success or otherwise of a football team. My problem is that our economic 'plan' appears very naiive and somewhat flawed.

We appear to be spunking all our hard earned dollars on players wages leaving very little for either team or infrastructure improvements. I bet the current squad wages are double what they were 5 or 6 years ago. Is that justified with performances on the pitch? I think not.

We need something solid to show for our extended run in the top tier, something like a new stand or winning a cup. Then it would make the misery of watching this lot more worthwhile.

Exactly this

I doubt it's our transfer activity or "model" since Roy's employment that's led to that loss. Roughly an £11m profit on transfers.

What youngsters should he be playing ?

Essentially in existentialism people are free agents who have control over their choices and actions, and are therefore responsible for them.

In our society, especially at present, the state and its agencies restrict the individuals life or actions.

Existentialists believe this is harmful destroying the development of an individual's potential and society in general.

I think...

Therefore I am?

Couldn't agree more. These clubs are a blot on the football landscape. I wish they's go off and play with themselves and their Continental equivalents so that the rest of us can get back to a truly competitive league structure.

It’ll be funny because the top European clubs will dominate that as well. But no Man City 2nd team in the English league. Either in or out.

Exactly. These clubs either stay in the PL or join the so-called European elite lock stock and barrel. Will such clubs still be eligible to play on the FA Cup? (Obviously, wouldn't qualify for the League Cup).

Lots of questions about whether fans of these clubs would buy into the new format; fate of the Champions League and other European competitions; how many people would be prepared to pay to watch the new league? etc.

It wouldn't bother me if it did, a club like ours doesn't belong in the same competition as the big moneybags clubs. At least we wont have to forfeit 12 fixtures every season which is what Roy is doing at the moment

Agreed. Citeh vs Chelsea last evening (F.A. Cup semi) was SO BORING and nowhere near as exhilarating as a game of chess with which one of the wallies on BBC compared it.
The Premiership isn't a competition. Or rather, it certainly isn't a competition in which twenty clubs start off equal. May the top six go and play with themselves in a European League, leaving the top division in this country to be contested by clubs that are just that rather than international businesses. And if, on top of that, we can have a rule that each club must begin by fielding five players who have come through their youth systems, better still. At least we can't be told that Brussels wouldn't allow that any more.

Delighted with the way this post has attracted real wit. It began simply by suggesting that Economics was responsible for a 'rigged' Premiership and could there be an alternative. The consensus seems to be that Economics wins in the end, but an assertion of the will never goes amiss. Sartre would have approved of that and, yes, what Andy Thorn thought is more important.
